In some general news on the pc game front, JonRic's Blog at RPGVault has a short but interesting notice of an effort by the Austin based University of Texas to preserve some video game history:

…its worthy goal is to collect materials that will help those who wish to know about the history of the industry before they are lost forever.The Archive's website can be found here.
Two notable individuals involved are Warren Spector and Richard Garriott, who are said to have pledged most of their personal collections…
…And I look forward to seeing what historical treasures and oddities will surface from various donors' file cabinets, cupboards, basements, garages, etc.

The "Deutsches Museum" in Munich, Germany, also has kind of an software archive, as far as I know.
