Gothic won't start, HELP?
June 28th, 2008, 17:26
I Just installed gothic on my computer and for some reason it won't start! I've read other forums and and downloaded patches, but nothing is helping, does anyone know what to do?
Edit: It's gothic 1, and it just won't start, no error message, i've tried both discs and it when i double click, nothing happens, except sometimes it asks me if i want to install it again…

which OS and is it gothic 1? Do you get an error message? Is the CD in the CD-drive? -> try both with and without the CD in.

i've tried both discs

Try right click -> compatibility mode -> Win 98, fior example.
My own Gothic 1 setup program needed 5 or even more minutes to come up …
I mean under my current OS.
Edit : And make sure to patch it. I think it was 1.08b or so.

How long did you wait after the double-click? Before the first start the virtual file system needs to be created. This can take a few minutes.

Download and install the program CDCheck (30 day evaluation copy)
Then run the check, compare, recover functions as required.
The game data is on cd 1 and speech data is on cd 2.
If you get a report as follows, all should work o.k. (this is for ver 1.08j)
Verify if files are corrupted or missing etc' especially the data cabinet files.

About the patching: rpgdot has the 1.08k patch and that's the only patch you might need to install. If you recently bought the game, it's probable that your version already has this patch.
Unless off course you're trying the German version. Alrik and Gorath can certainly help you further with this one.
small4ward: Can you please answer the question on which OS you're trying this? I haven't tested it on Vista 64 bit since I still have a slightly older pc with XP 32.
Another dumber question is: On exactly what were you double clicking?
