Kivi's Underworld - Open Beta Released
October 14th, 2008, 18:07
Soldak has released an open beta for Kivi's Underworld (38Mb), asking for players to give them feedback on bugs and the gameplay. After a quick glance, this looks more focused on the hack'n'slash than Depths of Peril but with some cool powerups and class differentiation.

Downloading. I'll stick some feedback up after I play. If it's anything like Depths of Peril in addictiveness, I'm in trouble.

Looks and plays like a gauntlet game. Not my bag, but it looked like it would satisfy the whack-a-mole yearning if you have it.

I've only played through the tutorial because of some annoying mouse issues(have to highlight and select wa—aaay above the object you wish to interact with—awkward), which I'm sure will be corrected, but it definitely is fun to play. It's got a different focus without the faction elements, but as a casual game you can dive in and out of for some dungeon crawling hack-n-slash, it looks very promising.

I don't like the lack of saves … have repeated the same thing multiple times.

Well, today my mouse problem seems to be gone, so it was apparently my machine running something in the background, possibly NAV. Whatever, the mouse control now works fine and I'll put in some more time and see how it goes.
