Risen Blade/Blunt Damage

Does it make a difference what type of damage a weapon does?

In the Bandit camp the smith Oscar sell the following 2 weapons,

It_Axe_Beard - 48 Blade damage, Need 30 Str
It_Axe_CrowsBeak - 58 Blunt damage, Need 45 Str

I would guess It_Axe_CrowsBeak is better of the two weapons provided you have enough strength to use it?

I have not seen monster stats but I am guessing they may have different protection values.
