I bought Sacred 2 at Walmart last weekend and I've been playing on the bronze level with a High Elf. The whole bottom quarter of the map seems populated with creatures that are lower level than my toon. Has anyone played on the silver level of the game, and is that the same case? I noticed I could start on silver in this game, instead of needing to finish bronze first and I'm wondering if that'd be a good idea. So far, the challenge is non-existent, unless I just cross half the map to find higher level creatures. I'm a completist, so it goes against my nature to leave any stone unturned. Do creatures level up more in silver? Does completing silver open up a gold or platinum level?

P.S. I know I can look this up, but I'm at work and they block almost anything with the word game in it. Fortunately this site isn't called RPGGAME Watch :)

Start on Silver. Unfortunately it is still a little too easy, but it is much better than bronze. I have never played bronze in either Sacred games, with any character. It is simply way too easy. This was a big issue in beta testing. They did ramp up difiiculty, but for some still not enough.
Completing the game in silver will open up gold. Finishing gold will open up platinum, and finishing platinum will open up niobium. This applies to sp only. MP is based on level. 60 is gold, I believe 110 is platinum and 140 opens niobium,IIRC.
This is by far my favorite games of the h&s genre. I love the many different ways to play each character. The rune system works well IMO. And the cooldown works much better than "mana", also IMO.

Yeah, even Silver is pretty easy. Bronze is a cakewalk.

Thanks folks. I was just wondering if I was going to get my butt handed to me later if I played silver immediately. Sounds like this is not the case. I will say the game world is impressively large. I never finished Sacred 1, but I got my money's worth out of it.

Definitely Silver. Bronze is fun for a bit but really just too easy and even for a fairly mediocre player like me it got boring.

I recommend the silver difficulty setting if you want some challenge. Bronze is too easy. It's like walking in a park and very boring since this game is all about combat. If you have the expansion pack I definitely recommend Dragon Mage. He has some cool magics and moves while able to transform into a dragon form.

We have a god damn program called websense in our office. At least you can enter rpgwatch in your office. I can only enter this site at home. ;)

They can't really take the internet away from us, but they do block most of the good sites. They don't block facebook though, which is really strange.

Thanks to everyone's suggestion, I've dropped bronze and leveled up to 20 or so with a Elf hottie mage. She's heavily focused on fire, which is working out pretty good. I'm glad that they don't have that root spell going on every creature like they did in Sacred 1. My favorite non-combat spell has to be the teleport spell. It allows my gal to skip backtracking so much. She can just teleport small distances to cross rivers, get up on a ledge, or escape from enemies.

If you are playing with the latest patches Ice specialisation is very interesting too , although it does need a bit more work to shine ....i hope that you didn't took any weapon skill since you will not ever need it.
High Elf does need to start in Bronze in order to get some skills and low regeneration times , the only other character that does need to start in Bronze is the dog .
Some creatures do use root spell , specially in the Orc and Seraphim territory , if i were you i would first cast some "Expel magic" before getting near them

Tragos, I took the Mage staff weapon specialization because it said that it boosts spell damage. I'm regretting that decision, but I don't think the game has a respec trainer. There are so many skills that sound good, but you never know until you get them. I got bargaining thinking it would increase my odds of getting good equipment at the merchants, but I've put ten points into it and haven't seen a single yellow item yet. The key to good drops seems to be equipment with the find better treasure ability. Those are rare. At level 25, I've got two items with that on it and a total of about 9-10% to finding good loot. It seems the easiest way to get green items is to just do all the little random quests. The game also seems geared to keep your most logical weapon rare. I've found about 300 polearms of yellow quality and I still haven't found a single yellow staff weapon.

I only took one magical tree to the next level and that's the fire branch. I have all the spells in the other tree, but they're slower than my fire spells because I don't have that aspect trained like I do fire. I've pumped up the spell that regenerates the combat arts times. Grand something or other.

I couldn't play this game without the High Elf's teleport spell. It saves me tons of time in travel. It is also useful to quickly jump between the Human and Elven lands. The best use is jumping up/down cliffs where you have a long winding road reaching the bottom.

crpgnut staffs will boost your spell power , of course there are better skills to pick but all choices are okay.
Usually the High Elf gets one of the specialisations ( fire or ice -both lore and foucs) AND Arcane magic ( focus) , Great invigoration is a must buff ( boosts HP regeneration time and lows spell regen) .
For a mage bargaining is a MUST skill but you have to pump like 50 points to it in order to work , sooner or later you will start getting +all skills amulets / rings .

The basic fire mage is usually like this :

Concentration (lows regen +you can use 2 buffs)
Pyro Lore (increases damage)
Pyro Focus (regen and level)
Delphic Focus (to use G.Invigoration buff at high levels)
Bargaining (gear is A and Z )
Constitution (hit points)
Ancient Magic (spell power)

The usual mage invests 3/4 of the attribute points to stamina and 1/3 in vitality .
To increase quality of drops and quest rewards you can take Enhanced Perception

Edit: Heh this is important , i imagine you use the fireball spell , do not read more than 1 rune for lots of levels Ancient magic and Pyro Lore will keep it up to level, if your regen for the spell drops at 0.7 then you can consider reading a second one

Too late. I think I've read 6 or 8 runes already! I've got Pyro Lore at 15 and Pyro Focus at 10. I don't have the other 2 focii at all. I'm at level 25 so I can add ancient lore at 35 and I'll save my points so I can pump it up a bunch when I get there. I'm one shot killing creatures with my fireball but if I stop receiving the runes, I should be able to swap 4 for 1 at the runemasters. I could add the Delphic Lore and Delphic Focus as my last two skills, but those won't come for quite a while. I took armor lore, which was probably a mistake. It seems to open up secondary skills that are on lots of armor though, so I'm not sure.

Also, on the Ice and Blood front; that was never released in the United States so it won't work with my version of the game. There is a workaround to kinda make it work but I've heard that it causes problems too, so I didn't bother. If I decide I love the game enough to play it multiple times, I'll just buy a UK version of Sacred 2.

I always pick armor lore with my mages , i also take shield lore because the more defence the less chances monsters have to hit you but of course this is just me.
You don't need Delphic lore since you only need to use the GI buff , actually all High Elf skills are built around this buff. Usually people take Delphic lore when playing melee mage with magic coup .

I don't know if you read the manual but Lore = more damage while Focus = high level + regeneration bonus, without the focus you can read 40 runes and still have a level 2 combat art / buff.
I imagine that your regeneration time for fireball is horrible now lol but you can always run around gather mobs drink a mentor potion and use blazing tempest, if you have speed bonuses or speed lore regeneration doesn't really matters , you can keep moving and cast it every 10'' to burn things down.

Anyway , kudos to you for starting with a challenging character even if you haven't played S1 , most people start with the corpse or the angel :p

*There is a way that you can edit the game but i wouldn't advise since except from the dog the other characters are pretty balanced . The file you need to change is in Scripts\server and the name is balance.txt , it doesn't create problems but it ruins the game (makes it too easy) so be sure to rar it somewhere before editing.

Yep, no editing for me. I do love starting over though. You know, I never use any of the potions besides healing. I'm not even sure what mentor, undead death, etc. do exactly. I've never really needed them. I basically play a creep and lure mage, killing groups one or two at a time until they're dead. My fireball takes 4.7 seconds to regen but each cast will kill a creature.

Great! Thanks Tragos. I'll never use mentor as I feel I level too quickly already. I can sell all of those :) Undeads I'll put in the chest until I need them. I wish they would have released the expansion in the US.

Bargaining works best when it is at least as high as your character level. Try to find rings, ammies, etc. that will add to your bargaining, and then wear that equipment when you go shopping. If bargaining is above your character level, and you are patient, you will see some great items.

I dont take bargaining. This is one of those skills that the ones who use it swear by, and the others hate it. I much prefer to find the items I use rather than buy them, thats all. I also would rather spend the time killing monsters rather than shopping. Again its all personal preference. It can be a really useful skill, but just requires a lot of investment in both skill points and time.

There is no respeccing however. Once you take a skill you are stuck with it. These are the skills I take with my fire high elf.

arrant pyro lore
arrant pyro focus
concentration
armor lore
shield lore
constitution
ancient magic
delphic arcanic focus
tactics lore
combat discipline

Not necessarily in that order. She is a killing machine. The 2 buffs I use are grand invigoration and incandescent skin. with delphic arcanic focus taking for the buffs to grand invigoration.

And I bought the UK version to start with, and then purchased the expansion from gamers gate.
