The Official Anime & Manga Thread

I think we had one, many years ago. Feel free to either necro it (unless it was pruned) or make another one in OT.

I did a search before making this thread and nothing showed up. I suppose it's been deleted. Also I wanted to know if more people want this. I don't want to make a thread where I will be the only one posting :p

yeah after Welcome to NHK! I kinda retired from watching 'em.

But I kinda dig Kamen Riders. Decade was a good trip down the memory lane, W wasn't bad. But OOOs is just pushing it. And Fourze is beyond help.

I do watch anime every now and then, though I rarely watch anything other than shoujo and deeply surreal stuff. As the potato said is kind of hard knowing the good stuff from the generic crap, so, like, sure, let's have an anime thread if you want. At least it will be of use to separate the wheat from the chaff.

Since we are at it, everyone here should ignore the Umineko No Naku Koro Ni anime. Read the Visual Novel instead. It is incredibly awesome, and the anime is awful in comparison. Yet watching the anime would ruin the visual novel as you will already know all the twists and key scenes from the question arcs already.

Maybe we should get a VN thread too.

i like some of the artwork, Ive ended up w/ anime desktop wallpaper a few times after trawling 4chan. I own Elfen Lied, Vampire Hunter D, some Hellsing, and watched the Dead Space animated movie recently, the former are pretty good, the latter not so much.

I like the art style and have occasional flirtations w/ it, but I dont think it's anything I could make a hobby/lifestyle choice out of it like some people seem to.

There isn't much I like, since I'm probably too old for most anyway, but stuff from the late Satoshi Kon like Paprika is fairly good. Also rewatched Akira recently which is still enjoyable. Very little else I like watching unfortunately. I've gathered there really isn't that much anime made in that vein?

Paprika? Yes, definitely.
I also like pretty much everything based on Shirow ... the GitS movies, GitS:SAC & movie, Black Magic, Dominion, all the Appleseed stuff.

I own some Amine-styled movies like Casshern and Natural City, and the 4-flick-Inuyasha box. I have a little bit of Bubblegum Crisis on tape, I own Cyber City OEDO and Monster City, and I watched pretty much every anime US Manga published between the early and mid-90s. I forgot the name of the 4-part series where the demon Kato tried to destroy Japan, but I really loved that. At least a lot more than Vampire Hunter D or Fist of the North Star or MD Geist.

I haven't seen many of the newer anime, mainly due to a serious lack of time, but my niece does (she also draws delightful manga).

Id reccomed all the gundam series. There are a couple from the 90's that were never released in the states.

1 Gundam Victory
2 Gundam Z/ZZ
3 Gundam X
4 Turn a Gundam
5 Gundam Wing
6 Gundam Seed/Destiny

While Im at I highly recommend Berserk. The manga is still ongoing and the anime barely covers the first Arc. I dont have to many recent ones in the last 3 years to highly recommend. Its mostly harems and loli based anime mostly coming out.

Seeing how the previous topic in the suggestion thread increased in views and posts, I decided to make here an official thread for the subject.

Feel free to talk about anime, manga, post MyAnimeList or AnimePlanet profiles, ask for recommendations etc.

Some useful links:

Anime air dates:

I can further post websites for on-line viewing and reading of anime and manga if I am allowed.

Now wait. You're my nephew …? :p
Well, FotNS isn't exactly Urotsukidoji. A tad violent, perhaps, but no TR.

EDIT

OKay, so I moved the contents of the thread over at the Watch Forum to this one. Due to time stamps, Bloodlover's ORIGINAL post unfortunately turned into Post No. 11 - hope this won't distract too much.

This anime thread is more upside-down than normally. :p

Never mind. I'm currently watching Mashin Eiyuuden Wataru Season 3. S3 is the last of this series, and it's quite BIG. Those who like mechas, should take a look to this classic anime.

My PC is full of anime series. Need some space to keep them on. Fortunately, I bought DVD's to have them safe. I don't wanna risk losing them just because some disc has been destroyed.

The only old Mecha stuff I watched was Grendizer. I also owned several of the manga. Later I watched some Macross (and perhaps Patlabor qualifies as well).

Macross is in my plan to watch list. I saw Patlabor: The Movie because it was produced by Mitsuhisa Ishikawa (he also produced Ghost in the Shell and Jin-Roh: The Wolf Brigade - just to name some of my favourites) but I wasn't that impressed. But then again, I wasn't impressed by NGE either so my tastes are not 100% relevant to everyone.
