Eroticism in gaming? If it's done well, it would represent the kind of point I'm talking about.

Yes, and my point is that a PC Geralt would be very uinteresting.

Ok fine but you shouldn't expect many players would be like you, ie not be sensible to well done eroticism and I would add hotporn. :) Nor not enjoy pure non political stuff just for the pleasure of it without any depth behind. That's pleasures you don't appreciate but it would be vain to hope not be isolated in your expectations.

You really need to work on your English, sorry ;)

I'm finding it hard to understand what you're saying quite often.

Anyway, I don't recall saying that I expect people to be like me.

Yeah too big ellipses/shortcuts plus bad English doesn't help. Or eventually there's a point I haven't understood.

You argued about what games should be, I ended understand that for you no eroticism even well done, no porn even when hot, no non political stuff because it's pointless.

So I read that you want games without eroticism, without porn, without non political stuff. Fine for you but you can hope a long time up to end of eternity because very few people are like you on that matter.

No, you don't understand at all.

I said eroticism done well is fine, because then sexuality has a point. I said I don't want sexuality shoved in my face unless there's a point.

I've said absolutely nothing to indicate I don't like non-political stuff - I've said that Geralt as a PC character would be a boring character.

No, you've imagined a lot of stuff about me that I haven't said. This is why you should work on your English, because it helps when you want to exchange with people.

....I've said that Geralt as a PC character would be a boring character....
What is PC character? Player Controlled Character? :) From what you invented that? Or it's just to lost people or to look smart?

Thanks for the advice on improving my English but you should make more simple sentences knowing many people not very good in English read such forum.

Just for curiosity, I'd like understand what means the sentence I quoted.

As NPC (not exactly an uncommon term in RPGs) stands for non-player character, it's not that far-fetched.

Thanks to try help, I know that for NPC, but he wrote PC character which means PC (adds character was putting garbage) so Player Character.

So let reformulate the sentence, he wrote: I've said that Geralt as Player Character would be a boring character.

So either it's garbage either it's HUGELY more simple to write. Geralt is a boring PC.

PC is a very, very common abbreviation which stands for Politically Correct - and it should have been obvious given the context of our exchange.

I don't have the surplus of energy required to educate people at the same time as communicating my thoughts - so I'll simply have to refrain from exchanging with you.

I'm sorry you don't think it's reasonable to educate yourself and that you expect others to carry the burden of misleading communication you bring to every debate. I find that to be a repulsively selfish position.

But we'll live, I'm certain ;)

I'll put you on ignore, lest I forget this again sometime in the future.

And you think many readers translated well PC in politically correct? The worse is you think you was right with your crap sentence and PC use.

I don't care, but again, such forum isn't just for people reading very well English. For your jump into the lack of civility, despite some worthy mutual efforts :) FO. :)

…We all want to fuck something - but it's trivial unless it's relevant somehow, as in when we're about to engage in a sexual act.

I read you only want real sex, I'd be curious how anybody can translate it differently. The jump you expect reader do from real sex to eroticism is very comical.

…But don't design games with characters that don't serve a purpose beyond being politically correct - because that's not interesting.

I read beyond politically correct is not interesting ie non politically correct is not interesting.

Again, I'd be curious how anybody can translate it differently.

It's fine I don't read well, but there's seriously limits, lol.

If only you made sense once in a while….

Well, you do - but not quite often enough ;)

Wooo so you really hadn't understood the total non sense of your arguing about sexism?? OMG.

I
...if women had cared about computers and technology from the beginning, they could have had a larger say. I certainly can't remember a lot of girls from my childhood lamenting not being gamers. Quite the opposite, I'd say.
So you explain the cause of sexism in video games is the lack of girls interested in video games.

But it's a fake argument about sexism because sexism is the reason girls wasn't much interested in video games. Sexism => Few girls playing video games => Sexism in video games. And you are saying Sexism NOT=> Sexism in video games.

You should go back at school to remind logic bases.

What I find weird is that this subject has come to mean so much in gaming at all.

Space Invaders? Packman? Pong? Aside from having a Packwoman choice, there's not really a lot of 'issues' that are actually possible in these types of games.

This problem seems to stem from the 'sim' aspect of gaming. Any game which wants to somehow correctly simulate life from the perspective of a single human, for whatever reason, be it shooting aliens or investigating a crime, somehow needs to be embroiled in the 'something for everyone' approach that includes characters of all types possible in their games.

To be honest, most games do not even feature humans with which to form these problems in the first place. Selecting either male or female is pretty much all you need for most games as the game plays out exactly the same whichever you choose.

Games simply aren't so deep that they require such rhetoric.

People will look 'idealised' with unrealistically attractive appearances, yes, but that's always been the case with visual media, afterall, video killed the radio star.

It only really matters when games make a big issue out of personalities and roles - ie: permit dialogue in the game which can itself permit biases to be expressed. And, well, Bioware *is* one of those game makers who just happen to specialise in this type of sim-gaming - so... it's kinda going to be something that they think about a lot. I'm guessing the makers of Civilisation VI aren't giving it a moments thought beyond extremely basic visual representations of diversity... which they would anyway, being a game which requires you select global stereotypes anyway as part of its core mechanics.

About 95% of people claim to be heterosexual according to several major studies (Wikipedia!). That's why most games feature heterosexual characters. I could go on...but why bother.

Please feel free to inform me of all the historical armies that were swelled with female ranks.

Please feel free to tell me why you think encouraging women to kill people as soldiers is contributing to the concept of a more equality-based sense of world peace.

Please explain to me how a homosexual warrior would look different to a heterosexual warrior as an in-game icon.

My thoughts excactly. Female armies are fine in Fantasy and Sci-Fi, but in a semi-historic game it would be pretty off.

Ihaterpg: Many times I disagree with Dart, but on this Topic he is pretty much spot on. And he isn't even disagreeing with you, you're just not understanding what he's writing.

Dart pretty much says (correct me if I'm wrong Dart) that pretty much ANYTHING is ok in a game, if it's there for a reason and implemented well. What's not ok is putting in sex/romance etc just because you want to be politically correct and show everyone excactly how much of a Pilanthropist you are. You don't make good games that way. I've never heard anyone complain (except maybe christian fundamentalists) about the fact you can have sex in a game like The Sims. There it makes perfect sense since it's in a large part a game about relationships. But in most RPG's it just feels forced and unnatural, although there are in my opinion some exceptions.

If implemented well though, romance and/or sex in games is fine. But it has to be done in a believable manner.

Exactly. It's really that simple. I dont even understand why this is about computer games, are they saying that the main stream movie (or comics / books) industry is any different..?

Gays and feminists in Sweden are getting more and more attention in our media, i don't think it's doing them any good since the people that get this undeserved attention arent the normal gays or feminsts. It's only the attention seekers and those looking to provoke and make people upset. This just spreads more hatered and does not promote understanding of homosexuallity or "womens rights" / feminsm in any way.

Gaming seems to be evolving.

But who is driving gaming into covering everyday themes - and, most importantly, why ?

Who is driving? Players who keep pushing for stories to be the central point of games.

Stories are about representation.

Here's what was written earlier:

It reminds of that other thread that reported a lack of female PCs, or stereotypical females depicted in video games.
It was just another issue imported by players who push story above all.
From a gameplay perspective, the look of an avatar does not matter much. But for players who want story, who want to immerse, to feel involved, to engage, the association to the avatar matters most. The incapacity of players who want story to relate with a female avatar, an ageing avatar, a black avatar is what brings in the lack of those types.

It all starts from the demand that games should be about story first. In story, representations are everything. In a game, they are nothing as game mechanics dominate.

It wasnt a big deal when gameplay was pushed forward (space invaders and the likes)

Story changes everything. People want to see themselves in. The devolution of gaming. In some other posts, wrote that stuff of this kind will happen more and more.

Now to wait for the reaction by players who want stories as they will reject the move by the industry.

Playing the number thing: it could be damaging because if 95% self declare as heterosexual, maybe more than one half of mankind is woman. Makes a big argument to get much more female heroins.
