I think this is a good thing to do and shows their commitment to the game even at/after release. They could also do nothing as soon as the status reached gold. I believe this is a nice compromis between the scheduled release date of a game and done-when-its-done strategy since not all developpers can survive that. Don't get me wrong I don't mean this to be a freecard for developpers to create buggy and half finished games!
