What I've Been Watching: The Catch-All Film Thread

So she's actually the right age for the character. Hmmm. It was just strange in that first scene of hers. They had her turned away from the camera and had a sweater on her that was pushed around enough to make her look like a hunchback. It really looked awkward.

That was the original design - to have the three main actors young enough to grow with the series, and despite going from 12 month to 18 month releases they are still managing.

Apparently there was no trickery in the film but there was one poster released with 'enhancement':
Two posters released on the Internet that showed Harry accompanied by six classmates, including Hermione Granger, generated some controversy by the media. They were essentially the same picture, though one advertised the IMAX release. In one poster, the profile of Hermione, played by Emma Watson, was made curvier as the outline of her breasts was enhanced. Melissa Anelli, webmistress of noted fan site The Leaky Cauldron, wrote:[59]
“ Emma Watson is playing a 15-year-old girl, and she herself is under 18. I get the full heebie jeebies thinking about the person who sat there thinking, 'Now, if we cinch her waist a bit, and inflate her bust a bit, and give her some dramatic lighting and more blonde hair, this would be a much better picture.' ”

Representatives for WB later wrote about the poster under fire, "This is not an official poster. Unfortunately this image was accidentally posted on the IMAX website".[60]

I severely doubt it - all three appear to be solid kids with good grounding. Emma is a nice girl who is enjoying being a teen but seems pretty bright and has a solid support system as do the boys. Unfortunately marketing types are scum and play to the basest desires ...

Eric Rohmer: Pauline à la plage and L' Amour l'après-midi. Very authentic dialogues. True life.

EDIT: Yesterday I watched Aguirre: The Wrath of God by Werner Herzog. Apocalyptic vision from time when Spanish was conquring South America and looking for El Dorado. Highly recommended.

The Ultimate Gothic-Oblivion Movie Made!!!

Hey all,
I saw this movie the other day: "Ring of the Nibelungs". Let me tell you, it is one fine movie. Initially, I was going to change channels, but indeed I didnt and Im glad I didnt. Ok, it is a medium budget movie, as can be obviously seen by some scenes, and the acting is poor sometimes.

Some scenes remind me of the Quests in Oblivion, and some from the Gothic games.

I strongly recommend "Ring of the Nibelungs" and to watch through the WHOLE movie and not give up early on. The movie builds towards a massive climax.

I remember seeing a trailer for this on the TV's in a store a while back - did it actually go to theaters?

Of course you probably know the whole Nordic mythos of the story and the 4-cycle opera by Richard Wagner (really great stuff).

I've seen this movie, it's called "Dark Kingdom: The Dragon King" in the US.

It features Kristanna Loken (Terminator 3\Painkiller Jane)

I´ve seen both 90 minute parts on TV. Pretty mediocre stuff. Maybe you should rather sit through Fritz Lang´s original. Or his own trashy 60s remake.

Saw the latest Bourne movie this weekend. Decent, but nothing special. Wait for video, IMO.

Watched Beginning of the End last night. It's a great old 1950's "big bug" sci-fi movie.

Kinda fits in with the game I'm playing right now (Omega Syndrome) - a bit.

in the middle of Father of the Bride again (seems like TCM shows it twice a month). Spencer Tracy's great, it's just a great flick all-round imho

Just got done watching Heat

What a great movie. I had heard about it in the past and caught pieces of it on cable, but somehow never got around to seeing it in full until this week. I'm not usually into "cops and robbers" type dramas, but Heat is unbelievable.

If you're a fan of Al Pacino or Robert De Niro , or just want to see a really good action-drama, I highly recommend getting it if you haven't seen it yet.

It's a Mad Mad Mad Mad World

Pretty funny old flick I finally got around to seeing, but not as outright hilarious as Ive been lead to believe. It had it's moments, but in my opinion it was too long a film. Ethel Merman and Jonathan Winters owned that film. Those annoying intro/intermission/outro things were supremely annoying when youre watching it on cable and cannot fast-forward.

'twas Spencer Tracy's day in the sun on Turner Classics "summer under the stars" thing, so I also ended up watching Adam's Rib with him and Kathryn Hepburn as opposing lawyers in a battle o' the sexes type comedy/drama. I liked it, you really feel the chemistry between them. For instance about halfway thru, Spence makes her cry, and it's great because she totally manipulates him with it - then kicks him in the shin, and it's just hilarious! It looks real, they are such a good duo, of course the fact that they were truly in love may have something to do with it.

It's like I never really sit down to watch these movies, I just have the television on while I'm doing something else and just casually listening to the dialogue and watching it over my shoulder. For me, Turner Classics channel is like an education in film, Ive learned so much from them. Sometimes the movies capture my attention and I just submit and sit down finally and watch, other times they dont grab me at all. Spencer Tracy is fast becoming my favorite actor, it seems no matter what the man is in, he pulls me right in and i just have to drop wht I'm doing and watch. He's brilliant.

Judgement at Nuremburg was on next, and fortunately another solemn lecture on the Nazis was something I can easily skip.
yay, I can finally do something else today!

Forest Gump (1994) - 5 / 5
There is good reason this was so highly regarded and why Hanks won the Oscar ... my older son watched this with me and was completely enthralled throughout. Great stuff.
