The developers of Skywind (a Morrowind remake with the Skyrim engine) released a new video of the game's starting area:

The first look at the starting town of Seyda Neen! Our 3D artists have recreated and re-imagined this iconic town with updated buildings and clutter. Prepare for the nostalgia trip of a lifetime and be sure to leave a comment below!

I'm hoping this will be a huge success - and that they will also complete Skyblivion (which is only in the early planning stages).

That's the one I really want, because I was so excited for Oblivion, but the obnoxious levelling killed it for me. I'd love to see it brought back and fixed up by modders, so I can finish it.

I hope it gets released before it's outdated by the next TES game.

That's certainly happened with these ambitious projects before. One good thing is that they've created a huge library of models, assets, sounds, voiceovers, etc, for this project, so hopefully a lot of it would be reasonably transferable to a more advanced engine, later on.

Is there even a single one of such projects which had actually reached completion? (That's a genuine question; looking for something big to play in July ;))

It's an ambitious project, but I think it's ultimately a waste of time. I still think Morrowind+MGSO looks better, and there are separate mods if the player wants Skyrim type combat mechanics.

Well, there's been total conversions like Enderal, and OpenMorrowind is downloadable. There are Ultiima games remade in NWN and Dungeon Siege. But I've seen more fail than succeed, for sure. There were a few for Oblivion that didn't see the light of day before Skyrim arrived, and were abandoned.

This may not be what you are looking for as it is not a new version of an old game but a mod that was a new game world.

Nehrim is fantastic. Gothic-style world design meets an open world like Oblivion. Great, great game.

Looking forward to this. I appreciated what they tried to do with Morrowind but ultimately the game was so skewed (no ranged weapons on enemies, wtf?) that I never really got into it.

It's beautiful -- but Skyrim already looks a little outdated in the light of current games.

Hurry, guys!

Decent, yes, but I really hope they are going to further improve it by laying down grass planes. Right now the ground just looks so bare.

Morrowwind was before my rpg conversion, but I've always heard it was the best scrolls game. I may pick up Skyrim if this works out.
