OK, hot off of PainKiller to Prey.

The first order of business was to struggle with config files to get it to properly play at 16:10@1440x900 and get anisotropic filtering to 16x, switch to uncompressed textures only to realize VSync won't stick between sessions. Fussy game. I have to set VSync manually every time I play WTF but not the end of the world.

Several hours later here is my two second take.

Imaginative game, interesting puzzles. Imagination and puzzles interferes with the killing. As far as killing goes it is sub par. Weapons are weak. Enemies are generic and hit real hard so I end up in the spirit test more often than I care to admit.

I miss Painkiller. Yes Thrasher, I'm going for the expansions and sequel!

The best part of Prey for me was the disorienting wall walking, and the spirit walking and gravity / jumping puzzles. The shuttle piloting was kind of fun too. Sort of gimmicky but entertaining. Yeah, shooting was sort of mediocre. Some of the weapons and their animations were cool though.

FWIW, I had some crashing issues on XP. I'm talking major crashes - computer freezes requiring reboots. Had to save frequently…
