Greets Adventurers.

Was very happy to play Wiz 6 (2 decades ago) but found Wiz 8 not too fine (scaling, difficulty, etc.)

1.) Would like to know why thou like Wiz 7 so much, in spite of the mostly 'mediocre rated' reviews.

e.g.:

Overall rumors / methinks:

++ pros
Char. develop. & skills
combat & magic
NPCs compete, free dialogues

— cons
boring, lifeless explorations
non-varied monsters
too much grinding
illogical puzzles
wrong interface ("automap")
plot

(Although I know about some patches & mods and Gold errors)

—————-
2.) Also heard, switching to and from DOS to Gold version is worthy for Gold's better automap, as their savegames are compatible.

—————
3.) Do you use and recommend http://rpgassist.90edges.com/, the auto mapper tool?

(on youtube)
—————
4.) Any Mod recommendation ?
—————

Thanx, if you can persuade me :)

(sorry for this extra topic, but is debating the worthiness of Wiz 7)

Bye

for the longest time it was my favorite RPG (it could still be now but I played it so long ago that I don't remember much about it).

Except for the plot, I agree with the pros and cons.

I wouldn't play Gold, though. Diplomacy is buggy or nonexistant, and the voice acting is so bad it's painful.

There are mods for Wiz 7?

Overall I liked Wiz 7, but I prefered Wiz 6.
Fighting the same limited types of random enemies a gazillion times got old. The two first Might&Magic games had a similar combat system, but more fun encounters (less frequent, much more random, and less "realistic") and loot system, I think.

Ave to the Sage of all worthy games!

Read somewhere, that switching to DOS at Diplomatic situation is needed, but Gold is better for wandering coz of its more convenient automap.

2 main Mods I heard of:
here
and here

One is the Gold Rester (quick rest for party), the other is Mad God's mod.
Don't know if should use them.

And the RPG assist automap, which I mentioned in OP - don't know if buggy or not.

ave.

I generally agreee with all of this. I thought Wizardry 6 was the superior game by a fair margin, but Wizardry 7 still has something to offer.

I preferred Wiz 6 as well - mainly because of the well crafted dungeons and puzzles that made sense as well. Wiz 7 was more open ended.

I would if I hadn't started with Wiz8 ... probably going backwards now. It's a shame you can't import parties from later games into earlier games.
