Joan Jett did good work. She managed a fair bit of sales, but never really got the respect she deserved for continuing to pave the road Pat Benatar worked on before her.

I like the early work of Pat:

Pat Benatar - Heartbreaker

more girl-power...

Amii Stewart - KNOCK ON WOOD

Cyndi Lauper - Into The Nightlife

Kim Wilde - The Second Time (Go For It) (1984)

Kim Wilde - Water on Glass

***

found these diamonds:

while my guitar gently weeps special edition

George's Friends - While My Guitar Gently Weeps

Stairway To Heaven (with jimmy page, jeff beck and eric clapton all playing just like old times with the yardbirds)

***

my favourite rock song with cowbells:
Cream - Those Were The Days (1968)

"Knock on Wood" is almost enough to make this brokedown old whitey bust a move. Good choice. I don't really consider myself a Cyndi Lauper fan, but I don't change the station when she comes on. Kim Wilde is great. Shame she didn't hit it very big on my side of the pond.

I'm still on my Marine Time Keepers kick. Sam and Jason sent me a cd of the new stuff a few months back and I just love it. I really hope they write more tunes and get a record deal.

I have been digging two younger sax players:
- Chris Potter (listening to his 'Follow the Red Line' and 'Songs for Anyone' CD's). Here is a clip.
- Kenny Garrett - I won a CD of his so I pulled stuff I had before and then bought last year's ;Behind the Wall' CD. Here is a clip.

Bruce Springsteen - Badlands. Don't think I need to link it, it's one of his very best "old"/classic songs I think. But to someone my age everything before The Rising (2002) is old, so...

Was introduced to another Live365 station called Ice Age Radio. Great stuff. Kinda similar to Vertigo, but more emphasis on pop melodies and a little less on traditional dreampop.

Recently, I´ve been listening to a bit more idiosyncratic music than usual.
Probably most notable records, all three rather unconventional in their own way, were:

The Shaggs - Philosophy of the World
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NTNo80YmRVM
This album may be the musical equivalent of Ed Wood´s Plan 9 from Outer Space and it´s at least equally that charming.

Renaldo and the Loaf - Songs For Swinging Larvae
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3n3MbVoLYns
Music made by this duo consisting of pathologist and architect is a bit similar to early Residents but for example this album is much more fun than anything Residents have released.

Diamanda Galás - The Divine Punishment
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z3_xn15YEkE
I really can´t get enough of this album. It´s my favourite from Galás´ Masque of Red Death Trilogy. It´s an honest, furious and, in it´s own fractured way, beautiful record giving me shivers throughout it´s whole run. The final vocal bit in the song I linked, Sono L'Antichristo, makes me smile at how ultimatively badass it is.

Speaking of Dio, here's a gem of a song I discovered on Youtube not long ago. It features Tenacious D, Meat Loaf, and Dio.
Wow. I love Tenacious D, and I happen to love Meat Loaf and Dio as well :). Great, great song!
@DeepO: thanks for reminding me of Diamanda Galas. Man, my brother introduced me to Galas' stuff back in... uhm... well, must have been... uhm... long ago.

@DeepO: thanks for reminding me of Diamanda Galas.

You´re welcome. Interestingly, the night I posted the link I´ve listened to her mostly abbrasive works at least five hours straight, then fallen asleep and had some of the most joyful dreams ever. Without a doubt, the woman´s an exorcist .

As of now, I´m listening to Transa by Caetano Veloso. I couldn´t find my favourite song from it, Neolithic Man, so here´s Mora na Filosofia, a bit more conventional, though great nevertheless, song from said album:

Also, Thinking Plague, my favourite rock in opposition band:
Behold the Man - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ugF8WZx5wM0
Rhytmically freakin´ complex, yet really groovy song.
"In This Life" and "In Extremis" are their best albums imo.

What in the samhell is that, DeepO?

For me, the latest creation from my co-worker. I told him I wanted a fuzz bass song. I got Wahl tone, but I love it. Several of the guitar treatments would fit in a gazer arrangement, too. He wasn't sure about the ending, but I think it works.

I guess you´re not a fan of those 12-tone schoenbergian vocals, then ? :)

Dewayne Dobson´s song is cool. A really good sound and lots of cool atmospheres throughout. I think that something´s indeed missing at the end though.

Btw, some time ago I´ve made a song which might partially satisfy your fuzz bass needs. The sound is awful and digital and it´s intentionally over the top so beware.
Here it is:
What the Fuzzz - http://www.soundclick.com/bands/default.cfm?bandID=840251
Enjoy!! ;)

Not quite what I had in mind, but a good track, DeepO. Your work matches your chaotic tastes very well. Lots going on there, and a healthy dose of dissonance.

This is what I'm talking about:
"All Doves Grey" by Ether Aura
"Tell Me That I'm Nothing" (the clip quality on this one blows, but the beginning of this track is actually the source of the sound in my head)

Thanks for listening! I was pretty sure it wasn´t exactly what you had in mind but having the song called What the Fuzzz, I couldn´t resist :).

Here are some more, mostly quite oldschool, fuzzy bass sounds which I like:

Curtis Mayfield - Don't Worry If There's a Hell Below
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZUwEVrRCSvc

Sly & the Family Stone - Higher
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=md7oUJFY_6Y

Black Rebel Motorcycle Club - Spread Your Love
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=abKjC7EX2Zs

And the sickest fuzz bass of them all, Melvins - Night Goat
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3EuFXDXuZQ0

Kinda stoney, heh.

Personally, I´m still in the firm grip of Diamanda Galás :).

Mmmmm ... chaotic tastes ... I like that!!
