The ever-popular "Currently Listening" thread

… and now onto Enya, "the memory of trees"

I like me some Enya, set to repeat the cd for literally hours and hours. I'm dying right now trying to get this govt project done, been working since 7am, and its midnight now. Enya's keeping me going at this point…

**reaches over and cranks it up***

I hate govt projects, theyre such complete assholes, about anything and everything. Font's too big or too small. Need a section of a section of a section of this detail of a detail. Imperial AND metric on the same drawings and calcs. Everything raked over 10 times by 10 different people AND private engineer. Due yesterday. Hate them, truly hate them.

**sits and lets Enya soak into his brain and absorb some of the strife***

"you should feel lucky that you have work", yeah, well sometimes I truly wonder about that… times like these, rest my Father's soul, (makes sign of the tiger cross) maybe the evil socialists across the pond have it right. How many mandatory weeks do the French get mandatory vacation a year again?

I didnt mean it dad, really. Just joking ='.'=

i may be literally delirious right now...

I've been buying a few CDs with region-specific / country-specific music in the recent weeks :

- Laos (Royal Dance Company)
- Syberia
- Gouadaloupe (gwo ka)
- "Steel Drums & Percussion"

I'm going to listen to them in the next weeks.

I can really recommend the record company (or simple label ?) called "Air Mail Music" which distributes these CDs.

This is the gwo ka CD I bought : http://www.amazon.com/Air-Mail-Musi...=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=music&qid=1307446924&sr=8-1

I can really recommend it to anyone who likes Carribbean Music - or/and especially the music of the game called "Tropico".
If you don't know what gwo ka is, look at these articles :

The soundtrack to Conan The Barbarian. (Sample) (Sample 2)

I don't normally buy movie soundtracks, but after seeing the movie again recently, I was reminded of how incredible the score was. Absolutely one of the the best sountracks ever made for a film, and by far the best in the fantasy-fiction genre.

I'm looking forward to the new Conan movie, but I'm not holding my breath that the soundtrack will live up to the original.

Juular
obviously a hit

Deconstruction
title track, pure Zappa metal, the superb ending sequence greatly contrasts with all the antics before and provides rather unreal climax, atm most likely my fav song released in 2011, BEER!

The second album´s an ambient/new age affair.
Here´s a soothing title track:
Ghost

That should be enough of Townsend for this thread, at least as far as this year goes :).

Dream Theater is releasing a new album "A dramatic turn of events" in September, the first after replacing drummer and founding member Mike Portnoy with Mike Mangini. One track is available for streaming: On the backs of angels.

I think this one is very good, very prog. rock, perhaps not so much metal. A great teaser for the upcoming album.

listening to a very bizarre band called simply "Ghost", their debut release Opus Eponymous. This is weird shit

Stand By Him : you may giggle at the starting line, but youll be headbanging at the 2:15 mark!

Ritual :
nice one, love the closing solo to fade out on this track!

It's like a love letter early "satan rules!" Mercyful Fate mixed w/ Blue Oyster Cult. The singer generally stays in a pleasant mid-range to high range thruout. Solid riffy 70's hard prog rock sound tho, nice classic metal solos, just like Melissa. Kinda.

As corny as the total-satan lyrics thing is, I have to say this thing is growing on me big time. Finally someone doing something really different w/ metal. This may be in my top of 2011

Reminded me of this for some reason, Sammy, which isn't actually a bad thing:
Amboy Dukes featuring a very young Ted Nugent

Edit-
Haven't put anything up in forever, so thought I'd remedy that. Was surprised to discover that somebody has put up a track from Siddal. Not my favorite track off that album, but you just can't go wrong with Siddal. Exchanged a couple messages with Rich and Liz a few years ago and they said they were putting together a home studio to do some new recordings. Don't know if anything ever came of that.

Started doing a little looking around on YouTube. Been a while since I've done that, and there's some new stuff that I can share now:
"Airtight Angels" by Airiel
"Henry Miller" by The Emerald Down
"Charity" by An April March

@dte,@xSamHainx,@deep0: Lots of interesting stuff.

More metal: Here's an IMNSHO very good song from french band Gojira: A Sight to behold. Not as extreme metallish as their other work.
