I found news on a website called Gaming Enthusiast that Pubisher Ghostlight will be releasing a new Japanese dungeon crawler called Elminage Gothic on Steam.

Ghostlight have recently announced that they will be bringing the classic Japanese dungeon crawler, Elminage Gothic, to PC. Elminage Gothic, originally known as Elminage Gothic: Ulm Zakir to Yami no Gishik, is the 4th entry in Starfish SD’s popular Elminage series of dungeon crawlers, originally released in Japan for PSP in 2012 and on 3DS in 2013.

Not only will this release mark the first time the Elminage series has been brought to PC but this will also be the first western release for Elminage Gothic. As neither the PSP version nor the 3DS remake have been localised before.

Some may remember the original Elminage game, which Ghostlight released in Europe last year on PSP. The game is currently available on PSN but the boxed release was a highly exclusive offering, with one of the smallest, if notthe smallest, PSP print runs ever. Only 300 very special limited edition physical copies were ever manufactured!

For those of you who enjoyed it, Elminage Gothic offers the same classic old school dungeon crawling experience but adds a darker, more gothic twist to the game’s theme and art style. It features multiple character classes, hundreds of stunningly designed monsters, creatures and demons, well over 80 hours of gameplay and it even goes right down to including the traditional “THAC0” system.

Ghostlight have said that they’re aiming at a late summer release and that the team are still in the early stages of the translation and conversion process so the content of these screenshots may be subject to change over the coming weeks. Ghostlight are working closely with the team at Starfish SD to offer increased resolution of the original artwork as well as a host of additions for the Steam release including mouse and keyboard support and of course Steam Trading Cards.
More information.

I don't know about everyone else but this says a lot about Steam that more Japanese RPGs are being translated for the PC now. I for one can not wait to play more of them.

Apparently this is what's considered "dark and gothic" in Japan. :)

And cue the sarcastic humor of a few member's who cant appreciate JRPGs. Don't worry JDR as I don't care as I grew up playing these games overseas.

Maybe try having an open mind for once it wont hurt you.;)

Well, watching this gameplay vid it looks more like a dungeon runner than a crawler. Turn based combat, interruptive combat (sort of like Alternate Reality where you don't see them coming), and an unimmersive dungeon.. Not my style, I think. Okay I loved Alternate Reality and Dungeon Master but this feels like neither.JRPG, yes very much it is that.

Actually, this is very much a graduation of the classic Wizardry style dungeon crawler not so unlike how Tales of the Forsaken Land on the PS2 is---as is often the case with such things in Japan after the western side of things generally gave up on it.

Word has it that this is perhaps among the best of this particular series, or at least one of the more recent/modern---so odds are this should be rather nice for folks of the THAC0 persuasion at the very least.

I'd probably give it a try if the word of mouth is good. Very few JRPGs of that style make it to the US and the ones that do definitely have the potential to be good.

Although I generally don't like the weird cuteness of Japanese RPGs, I like the monster drawings in the game. I'm always in for Wizardry likes. I'm going to buy it if the price will be right.

Definitely Wizardry inspired... Dungeons and animation look pretty primitive, about on a par with wiz 6 perhaps (at least the mobs move a bit in wiz6!). But the only reason I don't do Wiz6 etc. now is that they are painful to get running, don't have automap and look horrible on high res monitors. If this has some good character development, works well on modern kit etc., will probably give it a go. Not sure why all JRPGs have to adopt that anime graphic style though - there is something a bit pedophilic about it that I find vaguely disturbing.

Ghostlight have done a good job in localizing some of the Shin Megami games, it's cool that they are bringing more of these niche titles to the PC. Easier to publish them there than on the archaic Nintendo 3DS platform.
