You know what, laugh all you want, but I have had access to the game for a few days now (I was a Kickstarter backer), and after sampling it for a couple of hours (like I do with Kickstarter/unfinished games: I play it a bit to get a feel, and then wait for the final release), I actually find it rather fun. Enough that I'm now actually genuinely looking forward to play the final game.
I can't comment on Legends of Dawn, since I only got it as part of a bundle, and I only tried it for a bit after many updates, so I didn't play it when most people were having major issues, but currently, Wave of Darkness looks good, plays good (I used the keyboard to move, and mouse to attack/interact/rotate map), and entertained me. I also didn't encounter any major stability, or performance issues, on my old machine (I still use Vista 64-bit).
It's a perfectly competent, and fun, action-RPG, especially for a small, indie team. It's a bit clunky, and rough around the edges, like many eastern european games, but frankly I find that's part of the charm.
Unlike what the video above says, I actually think they should streamline things a bit. They currently have many menus/shortcuts, which could easily be condensed to fewer options. There's nothing wrong with "streamlining" something, as long as you keep things intact, and improve playability.
I'm now even happier that I decided to gamble a bit, and backed the Kickstarter for this game, even though the overall opinion for the previous title was majorly negative. Backers for tiers of $15 or more received not only a copy of this game, but also 3 other titles from the developer, among other things (name in credits, digital songs/wallpapers, …). Considering one of the 3 bonus games I received was the new Steam "HD"re-release of Spaceforce Rogue Universe (currently selling for 12,99€, and a very worthwhile title), and that Wave of Darkness, even with a 30% discount, is currently selling on Steam for 18,54€, I'm sure I'll get my money's worth.
