Remember the hack'n'slash action/RPG Loki? The French studio behind Loki has announced they have acquired the interactive rights to George R. R. Martin's A Song of Ice and Fire, including A Game of Thrones, A Clash of Kings, A Storm of Swords, A Feast for Crows, and the upcoming A Dance with Dragons. The PR is below but at this stage, there's no information on the style of games they might want to develop:

Cyanide Acquires Interactive Rights for George R. R. Martin’s
‘A Song of Ice and Fire’ series

CYANIDE, A FRENCH VIDEO GAME STUDIO, SECURES INTERACTIVE RIGHTS TO GEORGE R. R. MARTIN’S BESTSELLING ‘A SONG OF ICE AND FIRE’ SERIES

First-Ever ‘A Song of Ice and Fire’ Video Games to Bring Classic Fantasy Series to Life

Nanterre, France – 12th May 2009
Cyanide, an independent video game studio, and George R. R. Martin today announced their partnership to create the first-ever video games inspired by the author’s award-winning, international bestselling ‘A Song of Ice and Fire’ fantasy series.
Under the terms of the agreement, Cyanide has obtained the exclusive rights to develop ‘A Song of Ice and Fire’ video
games for next-generation consoles and PC, and in collaboration with George R.R Martin, development has begun.
«We are all huge fans of ‘A Song of Ice and Fire’, so it is a true honour for our teams to be entrusted with creating the first video games inspired by this masterpiece» stated Patrick Pligersdorffer, Managing Director of Cyanide. «The twists and turns of the plot will allow us to deliver an experience which can be enjoyed by both long-time fans as well as gamers new to the series.»
Published most notably by Bantam Books in North America and Voyager Books in the United Kingdom, the ‘A Song of Ice and Fire’ novels have been translated into more than twenty languages (including Chinese, Japanese, Korean and Russian) and have been nominated for numerous prizes. Set in a world where nothing is simply black and white, the rich web of characters makes it an ideal background for numerous genres of video games.
‘A Song of Ice and Fire’ has already been adapted into a card game and a board game. More recently, HBO acquired the rights with the intent of turning the novels into a television series.
More information.

Oh good, Bethesda isn't involved. I'd insert a smiley but I'm not joking in the slightest.

If George R. R. Martin is going to be involved as much as he is involved with the series on HBO then we might not have to worry about it being bad.

I think they have some very creative people on their team, they just need a bit of direction...which I hope will come from various experts as well as Martin's input and insight/views.

Will keep an eye on it's development for sure ;)

And Loki had some good moments, I personally loved the art and character/creature design...but the gameplay did become a bit tedious at times.

OO GREEEAAAT, now I can play Sansa Stark in an action RPG with special attacks, brilliant, I do not think GRRM will have anything to do with this, they just wanted some extra income from licensing the IP.

Sorry to say, but I hate that "god only knows when and if will ever be finished" I&F saga. But ok, Martin has his fans.
To be honest, I expect to see a bunch of cashbait I&F games through next five (yes, FIVE) decades. Bah. Makes me sick.

From what it sounds like from when the tv series announced George R. R. Martin wants to be involved in anything made based on his books.

I for one would be thrilled if there was anything at all based on the I&F universe, because so far, there was nothing. With the exception of a fan made NWN module, perhaps, or an occasional comic.

A high quality TV series like Rome would be scrumptious and appropriate, but until I actually see it I won't get my hopes up.

Same for the Wheel of Time, come to think of it. In the style of Hercules and Xena, without the slapstick humor, that would be great. Especially the later episodes had so much atmosphere and an incredible soundtrack (like the Indian / Chinese ones).

There are board games based on the "A Song of Ice and Fire" novels and I think there is a card game also. I can't remember but I'm thinking there is PnP rpg based on the novels also but I am not sure about that.

Xena? Ummm...
Bu different from your view. All the way with humor like in "if the shoe fits" episode... Now that's something I'd definetly like to see.

Why do I play only RPGs and adventures?
To me... No humor = no fun.

And I tend to stop playing a game if there is no humor at all. You may say those are masterpieces, but... I hate when I don't laugh. If I wanted a game with no laugh at all, I'd play some retarded FPS.
By that I haven't ment "Clive Barker's Undying" FPS. That one is full of twisted humor.
