Obsidian Entertainment - Project X Teased

The Sword of Truth have doesn't have "lore" about Dyrwood, Godhammer citadel or the "Dirge of Eír Glanfath". Everything point to a new IP (with a religious setting too).

There is some rumors that this is Obsidian rumored Kickstarter project as well. Which would explain the PC exclusive rumor too.

That really does look like a great serpent ring from Wheel of Time. However, the text doesn't really refer to Wheel of Time in any way. It's getting interesting.

Yeah, I was sure it was WoT myself, but I'm now leaning towards original IP, as none of the lore mentioned has anything to do with anything at this point. For me, an original IP from Avellone and company would be welcome news!

Sounds like the Planescape Torment inspired IP that Chris has been wanting.

Based on the Uroborus symbol one might speculate Zenimax is contracting them out to do a followup to Skyrim, just as they did with fallout… Or perhaps Bioware EA decided to subcontract out development of their next installment of DA to a developer capable of making a decent aRPG?

Though my guess would be an original work(who wants to be constrained by someone else's IP? Also, I doubt Zenimax/Beth could patent the Uroborus symbol even if they wanted to - so it's use by Obisidian is not necessarily indicative of a Skyrim followup).

Planescape inspired IP sounds possible. Perhaps even a Vampire(aka bloodlines) inspired IP? The popularity of vampire themed entertainment seems to be at an all time, with the potential of appealing to a broader demographic(given the genres popularity with younger women/girls). Though I can't say if that is a good thing as I have yet to see or read any of the recently produced Vampire movies/books.

Vampire does not make sense. Vampire / White Wolf belongs CCP and they are already working on the WoD MMO. Another CRPG would interfere with the release / life cycle of that MMO.

Well it would be better than an mmo. I'll put my money on a wheel of time or seeker of truth game. Obsidian was talking about making both at one time in interviews.

So you're a fan of rape and objectivism. Good for you.

Even with the general weakness of the middle books, Wheel of Time doesn't deserve to be mentioned in the same breath as Goodkinds shit.

I'm not going to get into this discussion as there just books. They bother you but millions loved them and surprise Goodkind is still writing new books.

Feel free to get mad over imagined rape and objectivism.

I was throwing out (very) random speculation… Truth is it could be anything. Also I stated VtmB inspired - IE in the same vein as PST inspired; there is a difference between the terms inspire and copy.

Whatever CCP/White Wolf are working on is ultimately irrelevant as they don't own the vampire genre. Obviously Obisidian would have to add their own new wrinkle(s) to the vampire fold to keep from infringing on CCPs IP. However a court battle isn't exactly in CCPs favor either, the vampire genre predates White Wolf's material... Not to mention their lore takes cues/inspiration from various sources/mythos.

Anyhoo, the cryptic quote from your last post makes it sound more PST inspired than anything else.

My question, is it going to be a KS project or backed by a major publisher?

I find it strange that everybody seem to think this is related to an existing IP. Why can't Obisidian try to make something new?

Also, some people are suggesting that . X . X X I T X stand for Eternity, it could be Infinity too.

Oh and Josh Sawyer posted a picture on twitter today.

By "try to make something new" you mean original, right? I imagine it will be a "new" IP. However, creating something truly original that avoids drawing inspiration from it's predecessors is easier said than done, especially if sticking to a setting like fantasy.
