Legends of Dawn's update number 16 is about the player's House and that Amazon hasn't payed them yet and they are now in the top 25 of Greenlight.
In the mean time we put some effort to implement one of the features mentioned here at Kickstarter. This feature was not part of the original design or stretch goals but we thought it was nice idea and it did not take too much time to flesh out. So here it is - now you will be able to buy and decorate your own house in Legends of Dawn!

A player's house is used as safe place to rest and store items you've found on your journey. You will be able to buy shelves, closets, weapon racks and other item holders. You can also buy a bed for rest and more than 40 different decorative objects!
More information.

Yes, the omnipresent player's house — a solution still looking for a problem to solve. :)

Sometimes you wish this forum had a "like" button. I never really understood player housing as a concept. Strongholds with lots of quests tied in like in NWN2, hell yeah. But a house? But...why? I could see the point if you had really strict rules on resting and camping in the wild was really dangerous and inns really expensive. But that would be just what you mentioned, an added problem for the house to solve.

Sociologically speaking there's a lot of different motivations for roleplay. Two of them—packrat and cosplay/dollhousing—are why player housing exist. The packrat uses housing to assuage player anxiety about not having enough room for all their loot. You just. might. need. that. one. thing. And on it goes.

Cosplayers want to play dress-up with their characters and extend the behavior to houses. There is something satisfying in that kind of nesting behavior; organizing a house that is 'just so'. I think also satisfies an organizing compulsion, one that I engaged in when I played Ultima VII and Underworld. I used to create stacks of gold over here, weapons over there, gear in that corner, and so-on. I can't begin to say how satisfying it was. You only need look at what happened with Ultima Online housing back in the day to see I'm not alone.

So, um, objectively that was clever, but not true. There is a problem to solve that's as old as the RPG itself, it just doesn't exist with you.

I don't really know why anyone would 'complain' about a player house in the game. There's no down side to it and if the developer wants to put it in because it will make some people happy then I think the appropriate response is 'thank you.'

yes there is a downside to it. It uses resources (lots of art, time, etc) and it doesn't add to the gameplay. Now, you could say that player housing in itself is gameplay, but is it really? Why not add a casino, bungee jumping, swimming competitions, bowling and tightrope walking?

A AAA game with tens of millions of $ budget can afford to add those 'side things', but a smaller developer team shouldn't. Obviously, that's just my opinion.

Um, didn't they mention they worked on this after the main game was done since they were waiting for voice actors? A lot of the assets could be just reused etc to make it happen.
