After a few technical problems TSI have also launched their kickstarter today for Seven Dragon Saga asking for a large amount of $450,000 to fund the game.

Seven Dragon Saga, the epic RPG debut title from Tactical Simulations Interactive formed by SSI alumni.

The Empire's Elite

The Touched, chosen elite of the emperor, able to wield powers of Chaos both awesome and terrifying. A band of six martial specialists charged with removing the greatest threats to the empire from even the farthest flung corners of the known world.

How they choose to remove these threats is up to you!

Seven Dragon Saga. It's been far too long since you played an RPG like this!

A six-character party of heroines and heroes of your design, under your complete control.

An empire that exists to unify and defend civilization against the primeval forces that seek to destroy it.

A breed of adventurer, The 'Chaos' Touched, who exist to ensure the survival of the empire by any means necessary.

The power to change the world!

In this first installment of Seven Dragon Saga you shape the wild and dangerous Drakelands with your choices. Impress with noble deeds. Coerce with threats and violence. Or simply lay waste to the empire's enemies without mercy or regret.

Tactical, turn-based combat.

A dramatic central storyline to follow with side quests and explorations aplenty.

Wilderness and ruins.

Savage clans and diabolical beasts.

Swords and sorcery and secrets.

Seven Dragon Saga, an empire of RPG immersion.
More information.

After the build-up the ingame sequences were kinda lacking. Actually prefered what I saw in Dungeons of Aledorn regarding that. Also the lack of interface feedback in combat felt hard to bear just by watching.

450k is a ton of money…I guess they need to hope that people are nostalgic enough to back that much.
Personally with that one I will sit and wait for updates for now. The video didn't convince me to back with 25$.
Imho the "entry" is too high, and also the 40$ tier does not provide enough for the money. And the range from 10$-50$ is probably the most important one…

Considering DoubleFine took 3 million and took years to make a 3 hour cakewalk point and click adventure game, 450k doesn't seem like much.

Ah, no, don't get me wrong here.
I don't think that 450k are a big budget for a game. But its a big amount to ask for on kickstarter. There is a big difference for that. I guess Guido Henkel (Deathfire / Thorvalla) could sing a song about that. ^^

It sounds like they are using an overland map approach, combined with some strategy elements? The character Goals idea sounds potentially interesting—I suppose that's a replacement of sorts for the D&D Alignments. You get six characters but are the individual parties limited to four characters I wonder? It looked that way from the footage.

Honestly, to hire a team to make a game, 450k is nothing. I'd rather them not make a game than to half ass it like so many of the kickstarters end up having to do.

I agree Kordanor as asking for anything over $100,000 for kickstarter games nowadays makes it hard to get funded. Look at Underworld Ascendant for an example.

I'm glad that game picked up more funding in the last week.:celebrate:

As for Seven Dragon Saga I need more information, and a better video to help convince me to back the game. For now I have my eye on the game.o_O

It seems promising, though the pitch video seemed to drag a bit for the ingame part which deflated some of the energy from where they actually just talked things through.

Goal is reasonable given scope, no massive screen full of stretch goals on day 1,etc---should hopefully be something they can cross promote and improve enough to get some real traction.

Felt the same way. Dungeons of Aldenor simply had more to show me in their pitch video. And the pricepoint was low enough that my Kickstarter burnout didn't phase me too much.

Man, negativity even for this new team of devs who had experience with the Gold Box games? Sad to see.

If I had money, I'd throw a lot at them just for them mentioning Gold Box as an influence in their game! It's not like developers are lining up to revisit ancient games like that. Support these people. :)

100K? Only for unknown and/or unproven teams. Underworld just got 860K which is almost an order of magnitude above that (so how is it an example of 100K being hard?) Shadowrun: Hong Kong just got 1.2M. SDS will break 100K with ease. Whenever Bard's Tale 4 or Larian's next game appear on KS, they'll get multiple millions easily.

I've never played the Gold Box games, but I supported this because it is the kind of game that I'd like to see more of. Actual rpgs are still a very underproduced genre.

It is very much a fps.
Keep telling yourself that I'll continue to call it an RPG as do the developers.;)

There is always negativity Fluent didn't you know as our site is becoming a Mini-Codex it seems. Joking aside I will probably back the game this week when I get paid.

Geez man relax as I covered all those games, and was just using an example.:)

Well, the example you used (Underworld) got 860K, which doesn't exactly support the notion that it's hard to get 100K. Perhaps you were being sarcastic with the 100K amount, dunno.

I'll likely end up backing them. But I've made it a habit of waiting to see more first so I don't end up regretting it. :)

If you are not a known studio its hard to even get $100,000. That is all I meant as I was taking about other kickstarter games, and the problems they have with funding.

Just read my interviews with the developers who failed to get funded.

Now as for Underworld the developer had trouble reaching $600,000, but made $859,056 in the last week of the campaign. As I said I'm happy for OtherSide Entertainment.

The combat in the video seemed flat. Still backed it though, hopefully it's just very early/basic development at this point that well get fleshed out and sped up a touch. Now to go check out that other Kickstarter pitch....
