PC elitism once again…

Lol, that would indeed be the jokey soundbite. But the technical details are what separates the two. You simply wouldn't play Sonic or Mario with a mouse. Likewise, playing Civilisation on a game-pad would be so cumbersome as to be laughable.

Console games are all about the here and now, immediate action defined by such things as turning left at precisely the right moment, jumping at precisely the right moment, making split-second decisions based on 'action', where as PC games and the use of a mouse suggest no action and 5 minutes of considered thinking via such things as scenario decisions and menu searching before performing the next single 'action'.

While these formats are 'possible' on both platforms, one or the other clearly makes certain types of games less 'cumbersome'. For example, reading menus via a console game-pad requires pressing start to pause the game then select to bring up the menu then using arrow keys to cycle down to an option, etc etc etc, but with a mouse it's all just click-click-click.

If you play a driving game on a PC then you can use the old X and Z keys to go left or right, space to break, shift to accelerate etc, but before long your fingers are all tangled together and it's extremely easy to press a single miss-key and ruin your race. With a console pad it's all intuitive with obviously located left, right, up (faster) down (slower) and you might even have a steering wheel attachment, just making a console-pad less 'cumbersome' for the action.

So PC gaming favors a sense of the considered and patient (a sense of 'elitism') and console gaming favors the immediate and impatient (a sense of 'dumber'). In reality, favoring either format is a form of elitism, but accepting that both formats simply offer a different 'kind' of experience would be a technical reality rather than an elitism.

Argument game-why not take it off topic where it belongs?

Cooperative play would be amazing. But I think that might deserve its own spinoff series. I like everything they are doing, I just want more of it and more depth. About the only thing Skyrim did wrong (intentionally at least) is that it is too distilled.
