It notifies you. It emails you. In your character list (link of your account name in top right) there is an option for "Send email when party's quest is updated" for each character you have. If that's checked, it will email you.

Not sure what you're expecting, but this is essentially a simulation of a PnP game that reminds me greatly of Melee/The Fantasy Trip, for those of you that remember that one from the late 70's and early 80's. In that context, I think the graphics are quite lovely. I only hope to see multi-hex monsters in the higher levels.
