Gothic 3 Keyboard controls

i've played both parts of Gothic with keyboard only.. in part 3, i'm forced to use both keyboard & mouse - and i would like to know if there is a solution to this problem. when i attack a monster, it would back off and walk in reverse direction, while i will be swinging my sword and move forward and i can't hit the monster. is there a way to attack without moving forward?

i just remembered that in Diablo, i can press the 'Shift' key while attacking to stay in one place.. the current setup is difficult to lure the animals in a group to attack them because they will move backwards and eventually other animals in the herd will join in the attack..
