I was thinking not only of press articles, but also of statistics like this :

http://www.bka.de/nn_193360/DE/Publ...rSicherheitsbericht/psb__node.html?__nnn=true

http://www.bka.de/nn_193360/DE/Publikationen/PolizeilicheKriminalstatistik/pks__node.html?__nnn=true

http://www.spiegel.de/netzwelt/netzpolitik/0,1518,763806,00.html

The statistics *there* prove me to be wrong, though.

The view which is fuelled by the press goes up, on the other side.
In Cologne, the number of articles reporting violent crime is increasing.

Well there's a saying in journalism "If it Bleeds, it Leads". Violent stories sell, so the press focuses on them a lot more. This can give the impression that it's happening more often, but it's just sensationalistic journalism.

From what I can tell from the links you sent me and babelfish translations, they confirm that violence in Germany is going down just like in the US.
