Enthusiacs has a new three page article about the fall of LucasArts, and all the games that were canceled over the years. After reading it I need to go dry my eyes.

While many hope that Disney would eventually allow the Expanded Star Wars Universe to thrive and live to see another day under this new licensing agreement, more specifically a third installment for Knights of the Old Republic, that future remains in doubt. Many of the Expanded Universe books, video games, and tie-in products are considered “non-canon.” Instead, Disney considers the movies, and the upcoming movies, to be the only form of official Star Wars lore. Despite the fact that EA (who now owns BioWare, makers of the first KotoR and overseers of the second) now retains certain rights to make games under Disney, the future remains uncertain. “Always in motion, the future,” Master Yoda once said.

But the past has always defined the future. And this disconnect between the higher-ups of the old LucasArts developer, this seemingly lack of business coherency between the workers and the leaders, and more specifically the very person whose vision once encapsulated the entire universe, has blemished and tarnished that future, and many of the concepts and promised releases are now slowly fading into obscurity. George Lucas himself seems to have been as much an instrument of salvation as often as he was its weapon of damnation for his own company. And while the last 25 years at LucasArts brought us memorable moments both in and out of the Star Wars universe, eventually it wasn’t the lion of the modern gaming industry that brought the studio down. It was a mouse. And while Disney’s vision of the future is thus far set, it may very well be a vision that fans of the series may not like. We’ll know one way or the other when the new movies eventually make their way to the silver screen.
More information.

The concept of a Star Wars CRPG might as well have entered a worm hole and traveled to a distant galaxy. I'm not expecting to see anything worth playing in the next couple of decades. It would be better to hope for some original IP space fantasy to pop up and take its place.

We should put the KotORs in a fridge and nuke the entire post-Phantom Menace SW franchise from orbit. Make certain J.J. Abrams is in the near vicinity too.

Only way to be sure.
