Some great free software for keeping your pc in good shape

I use K-Lite for all my codec needs. They also host Real/Quicktime alternative. Since it's bundled with Classic Media Player, that also became my videoplayer of choice.

That is very nice to use on a low-end computer such as a netbook, I have found.

Found a great free piece of software.

I use it to complement the also excellent XP Antispy, which lacks some
of the features in this one.

Wouldn't VLC be even better, since with that no codecs are needed whatsoever?
That's what I use on slow and all other PC's actually, windows or linux. Helps to reduce the clutter. And I'm obsessed with keeping my PC nice and tidy :D

Yep - I have replaced K-Lite with VLC since I wrote that ...

For those with an ATI videocard this is an absolute must have.

Replaces or works alongside the ATI control center thingy.
(I use ATT to replace it, though)

EDIT:
I disabled the "Catalyst AI" and "VPU Recover" using this tool.
Some strange freezing problems I had in STALKER with full dynamic lighting disappeared alltogether. Seems that I got a performance increase too.

I used it before, but switched to Avast, I am very satisfied with switching....

the most annoying thing about avira is it shows advertisements from time to time.

I'd like to add a few programs
  • MP3tag All you need for your Mp3 files, easy and quick in use.IMHO the best way to tag your Mp3s.I use it everytime I add songs to my iTunes library
  • ImgBurn I'm not sure if this has been mentioned but ever since I found this program I never opened Nero again.

I don't know if this has been posted before. There is this nifty program from Auslogics with which you can do a lot of stuff for your PC.

I think it is shareware but I am not really sure. I downloaded it from somewhere and it is still working. Just give it a search on google.

No.

You should replace it with irfanview.
Guess I'll have to try both, although IrfanView's interface bugged me a bit in the past.

You could also try Faststone. It's free, fast, stable and has a very pleasant interface, too :) .

I'd like to add the wonderful Update Notifier which I found on the site Alrik posted.
It has a pretty big database which updates frequently and you can use it as portable(no need for install).
