Dragon Age - Sex and the Single Dragon Age Hero

You don't have to watch an homosexual scene, you dont have to watch an hetero scene if you want to portrait the classical "i'm a holy knight devoted to god alone", its a choice. In this kind of game, for the developers, you need to have a HUGE array of choices to apease the most out of the potential customers, and lets face it, sex is a HUGE seller for some people, either we personaly like to watch or even hate it to see it mixed with our classical fantasy macho prototype game.
.

Now that would be another interesting plot dynamic . . . . have a sex option that cost you some favour with your god / holy order etc but which gave you access to a particular player character or quest / item / plot options.

Mind you, the regulators would probably take offence. Wasn't there something about Risen being completely banned in Australia because one of the quests had a path to completion which was marginally easier if you visited the brothel? Shame really, with that kind of thing to consider it's probably never going to be more than a half hearted addon.

This site has characterized itself as a family friendly site since its beginning. And the level of language tolerated here has been following that line of thought. I have not had any misunderstandings or problems with that line up until this point.

My original post was in essence my personal opinion what I do not consider entertaining personally for me and what kind of products I do not wish to spend my money on. The intention was not practise hate speech towards any group of people. The point was to voice a protest and vote with my wallet and feet.

As I'm not a native English speaker nor living in a society speaking English sometimes the everyday use of every term and expression is not so obvious to me. Even after a look up of a word in a dictionary or thesaurus, it might not reveal to me the word's complete practical meaning. I apologize if I did end up using too offensive language for no apparent reason. As far as I understand all the expressions I used in my first post were within the limits of everyday common speech.

If we consider this site's family friendly moderation and the themes present in this game like all the gore, decapitation and now the added homosexuality. I can see why the conversations about this game can easily test the moderation. All said and done I guess I'll have to pay surgeon like precise attention what to write on this forum.

Methinks the homophobe doth protest too much…
….. for reasons like our cultured and intelligent Surlent up there, making it there but not shoved in your face was our attempt at walking a middle ground….
Was the name calling really a necessary practise from an employee of Bioware? First off, you're part of creating a game that is not appealing to me. After I express my views on a public forum and clearly state they are my sole opinion, you insult me in person?

As for the sarcastic remarks about my culture and intelligence. Not everyone lives in Canada or US and shares the same values and culture as you do. How is that a sign of their lack of intelligence and sophistication? Often the best/worst (depending on your point of view) way to start the bigotry is to put yourself above the rest of the world and belittle them.

Thank you for speaking on behalf of Electronic Arts / Bioware Inc.
I'll be sure NOT to buy any of your products.

And a pleasant day for the rest of you all. ;)

Yeah, and I'm just joking on his expense. The point of the post is still worth considering though.

Can't say I've ever heard anyone put forward an intelligent argument for hating homosexuals, so I can understand why people might associate homophobia with at the very least such a closed mind that they choose not to apply their intelligence, if not the outright lack of that intelligence.

If you have any intelligent arguments though I'd be more than happy to listen :)

I can get off on watching 2 women however if I see 2 men kiss I will run the mile. Thankfully I know that I am a hypocrite!

As I have said multiple times, my point has been constantly about my personal opinion. Which has blown this thread out of proportions already.

Thanks for the strawman though. ;)

So you think every opinions have a right to be freely said?

Your opinion was clearly homophobe. Just as racism, sexism I don't believe this forum is the place for such «opinions».

Noun: homophobia 'howmu'fowbeeu
Prejudice against (fear or dislike of) homosexual people and homosexuality
source : WordWeb

You live in a bizarro world where homosexual men «stalk» hetero men. Yish, arrive in the XXIst century, gay men are part of every societies (and have always been, it's just that back then they had to hide), and no, they don't rape hetero men in the streets!

I congratulate the developpers of this game to include such relationships. It's very bold in puritan Alberta(where bioware is based, which is Canada's Texas) to do such a thing.

"Faggot" isn't family friendly language. You're being deliberately offensive and portraying yourself as a bigot. Sad.

My original post was in essence my personal opinion what I do not consider entertaining personally for me and what kind of products I do not wish to spend my money on. I'm sure you also vote with a couple GB of your harddrive devoted to encrypted gay pornographic films. It's pretty much proven that the most vocal homophobes are actually in the closet themselves. Come out, brother!

Yeah, okay. You obviously speak English well enough to form fairly complex sentences and paragraphs. You knew exactly what you were doing, don't feign ignorance- it just makes you look that much worse.

Or you could show some common sense and not use hate speech?

Was the name calling really a necessary practise from an employee of Bioware? First off, you're part of creating a game that is not appealing to me. After I express my views on a public forum and clearly state they are my sole opinion, you insult me in person?

I think everyone has a right to insult your person after your statement. I'm sure the moderators would have completely erased your post if you said "this game has niggers!! holy shit! i'm not touching it!" or maybe even banned you completely. I personally don't believe a warning is enough for people like you, but it's their call.

As for the sarcastic remarks about my culture and intelligence. Not everyone lives in Canada or US and shares the same values and culture as you do. How is that a sign of their lack of intelligence and sophistication? Cultural relativism goes only so far. I'll personally accept any cultures customs or beliefs as long as they do not deliberately inflict harm on other individuals out of bigotry or ignorance, at which point I'll call those cultures out.

Sure, you have freedom of speech. But so do I. If you can be a bigot, I can call you out on it. To bring this back to the modern RPG- you made a choice (to post hate speech on the internet) and now you have consequences (a "warning" and now me calling you out on it. If the internet wasn't anonymous and people you know in real life people heard you spout hate, you'd probably get a lot worse).

I'm sure Bioware doesn't care that you won't buy their game. It's gonna sell a billion copies, regardless. And frankly, I think all their games should include gay male sex now- it'll bring people like you out of the woodwork and we'll know who to shun.

Alright, is it enough? I mean, ganging up on him for a word… We all make mistakes. But to be clear; I appreciate the anti-homophobic environment here.

Also, it's far more infuriating that biowhore has been able to release DA on PC since march but held it back for a simultaneous release with Xbox and PS in november.

A little out of topic, arent you?

That's well known since almost a year... so what?

I heard they have used that time to add over sixty new quests and remove a lot of bugs... so in the end, we will have a better product.

Nope, you're being off-topic discussing homophobia on a site called RPGWatch, on a subforum reporting news about RPGs. I'm perfectly on topic since this topic is about DA.

It was somehow known but this is an unequivocal confirmation from a bio-employee on the official forum. See.. you're actually making my point - till now they've been going around the issue and managed to confuse people like you.

If a Lead QA guy states: "DAPC was completed by the main team in March and was supposed to ship then, and was held for a simultaneous release with the console versions (next week)" how can you assume they've added something to a completed game in content lockdown?

The title of the thread is "Dragon Age - Sex and the Single Dragon Age Hero"

And I see nothing sex related about the DA delays you care so much about :p

But to answer your question, I don't assume it, that's what they have stated : «One member of the Bioware team later told us there were some 60 new quests in the PC version that weren’t there last March.» Can track the original quote, but I guess I could if I kept looking.

Just for you.

"To make the console ports possible, the content of Dragon Age was locked down in the spring. It wasn’t possible to add new content past that point, and the VO lockdown was much earlier than that."

So no, they weren't adding quests past that point in spring.

And I'll just roll my eyes at their "polishing" of the PC version. I've seen how they've polished it. It's so polished that grass in outdoor areas is flying around from happiness.
