Gothic 3 getting gothic 3 to run

hello
I can't get gothic 3 to run I just installed it on my laptop and it just won't let me get a new game going ... every time I try to run a new game I get a memory exception and hte game closes down.
system specs
centrino duo 2g
2 gb of ram
Nvidia go 7400 with 128 memory
Vista premium home.
gothic 3 is patched all the way up to 1.12 +community patch 1.4
I tried running it on medium settings on teh lowest resoultion
anyway I think I might be able to play if I get a saved game after the intro movie (like just starting the fight in the town) so if anyone can get me one I'd be in his debt.
