Article on ign about EA

http://www.ign.com/articles/2012/06...FNAME_5188_242595_242634&utm_content=20953179

Little article I stumbled upon accidentally.

Edit: I think there is material here if they ever make article "why do people hate IGN"

Just skimmed the article, but it seems a bit aplogetic? I guess IGN doesn't want to alienate EA ;-) I think the comments below give ample reasons for why people don't like EA - I have also spoken to people in the games industry who either worked for EA or had colleagues who did. No one had anything really good to say about their management. Of course that may be sour grapes. I know they need to make money, but they seem kinda 'rapacious' - I don't like large corporates though, so I accept that I have a bias of sorts.

EA learns, because it must.

Wrong.

EA has grown far beyond the size of something that must learn. Whales do not need to learn anymore, simply because of their size.

Small, agile animals need to learn in order to survive, or meanwhile they are groing up to become bigger ones.

Huge animals reach at one point a certain size where the need to learn rather ceases to be - except to maintain their similarily huge metabolism.

But EA just gets too much money every day so that their metabolism is imho stable enough so that they don't really need to learn much anymore.

Similar to Microsoft. "Too big to fail."

This is my personal opinion.

IBM and GE have been good at reinventing themselves. HP, not so much, but they are still around.

As long as they get revenue they will continue to do well. Their formula with sports games is very effective and they were able to change with the times (PC to console).

The jury is out on their move to social gaming, but their move into tablets has been terrible. Their market for Scrabble has been stolen right out from under them with Words with Friends.

Side note, I worked with a gal who used to work with EA. They treated certain programmers at the company like rock stars and she had a bunch of posters of games signed by them prominently displayed around her cubicle.

The obvious question floated around the office, if they were so great, why wasn't she still working there? Anyway, we all knew the answer: she was nuts.

Just before she was fired she bought tickets for her kids to go to Hawaii. Unfortunately, she only had the money to send them one way.

Let me sum it for everyone in simple words IGN is EA's bitch. Simple enough IGN can't piss off there money suppliers.

ill just leave this here, as it concerns Bioware and EA that I find interesting. (and makes good point about the costs of game development)
Still, EA had a time period where it released some innovative and original games.
Like Mirrors Edge.

I enjoyed the youtube clip - don't know enough about the workings of EA (or similar) to really comment, but my gut agrees with the sentiments of the narrator dude ;-) Ah well, if Bioware is entirely assimilated lets hope some new company emerges to take up their mantle…

Ah, but was she nuts before she started working for EA or working for EA drove her nuts?

Nice vids.I believe that it's too late for bioware they signed deal with devil and not he got their soul. Also sorry that there will never be sequel to mirrors edge.

Edit: I also don't consider EA to be worst company I more consider their alignment to be lawful/neutral evil I consider ubisoft and activision to be chaotic evil
