I had no idea until this morning. He was escorting some general through a secure location and suddenly a giant explosion rocks the whole building. Even though he was behind a blast wall that's supposed to be able to take anything short of a nuke he was knocked unconscious simply by the concussion wave.

He's been acting really weird lately and I guess that's only one part of it. He said one time while flying a plane over the Raq he saw an explosion so big it rocked the plane and also knocked out half the lights in Baghdad.

I usually tune out the whole war thing but then it slams home like that, and I forget how many people are going through that nonsense, and really with no point to Iraq war.

Not to mention all the countless civilians that get toasted every time these bombs go off, even if they seldom kill off many or even any of the people they want to kill, and if they do it's some teenager at a checkpoint who just signed up because he had nowhere else to go.

And just after I've been listening to XMas songs especially the Stevie Wonder one about men playing with bombs like little boys with toys.

I aint no senator's son. Neither is my bro. He's just in it for the money to pay his ex wife since it adds up to around 20k a month but shit just got real.

Should have sold his ass or something, just as dumb as joining military but at least you aren't messing with other people lives. Also less rape.

You don't have the luxury to quit when you are an officer, but he chose to go back into combat when he didn't have to for the extra money. It turns out the dangerous stuff has invariably been simply being in Iraq, though, not the fighting. I feel worst for the marines who just walk around or sit at a checkpoint until someone blows them sky high.

If that was me I would have stared at the blast and been like: "Oh, an explosion? Am I supposed to be fucking scared? AM I? HUH?" And then find whoever did it and destroy him.

Being unconscious puts a damper on that, but when someone comes for you, his is the last voice you hear but once your cell phone turns on of its own volition for his final message you're already dead.

You are probably right. It would be much smarter to bring mexico a few gigatons of freedom. The zetas are a much bigger threat than pretend muslims who really just want to be king of their sad little patch of desert and strap bombs to kids to make it happen.

The mission was accomplished. Took way too long, but now it is up to the Iraqi's. I hope they can put their differences aside and move forward, but I'm afraid the factional fighting will get worse.

I have to imagine if your brother has made it to officer status he has some sense of duty/dedication/honor about what he does. And for that he has my respect. Hard to sit home wondering, the worry can be as stressful as being there.
