Thanks to RPG Codex it seems Obsidian might be making a new Pathfinder RPG. Now I seriously hope this to be true , and excuse me while go dry my fanboy tears.

The hot buzz.. word... the latest rumors on the web is that Obsidian Entertainment is working on a Pathfinder game.

My source is Codex member tuluse, whose source is the Obsidian forums, whose source is enworld.org, whose source is some podcast, whose source is a Pathfinder developer who posted the accompanying picture on Facebook and shortly after removed it.

This would be the accompanying picture.
More information.

I agree Thrasher Pathfinder would fit their new game engine wonderfully.

I always wanted another offline Single-player D&D CRPG, and this is as close as we will ever get. With Pillars of Eternity and this my dreams have come true.:w00t:

I've also heard that for the first time in 14 years John Romero is working on another FPS title.

So overwhelmed by today's news, one more and heartstroke is imminent.

Maybe they are working on the Pathfinder MMO, because you know working on 2 MMOs is not enough these days.

@Couch, you said "a new Pathfinder game…" Are the existing games that use the PF rules? I play P&P PF with friends, and I'm really keen to try a PF CRPG…
Just one game and its a sandbox MMO. So I'm not even going to try it.:disappointed:

A Fantasy Sandbox

The world of Pathfinder Online is highly persistent. You will make meaningful impacts on the world as you build structures, create a economy of player character crafted goods, and struggle for territorial control.

Open World PvP

You will struggle for control of territory, trade routes, and resources with other players. Conflict is central to the game, and often conflict will mean combat. Some areas of the world are safer than others - but the more risk you take, the greater the rewards you will earn.
Combat between player characters should be meaningful. Randomly attacking others without context will damage your character's reputation, affect their alignment, potentially flag the attacker for retribution by others, trigger bounties, and over the long term, force the character to live and train only with others of a similarly murderous bent, significantly impacting their abilities.

A Player Driven Economy

With the exception of some low-level gear for new players all the equipment, supplies, building materials, and consumables in the game will be created by player characters from resources they harvest and exchanged via in game markets. Characters will have to arrange to transport their raw materials, intermediate processed components, and finished goods to crafting facilities and then to active markets.

Develop Your Character The Way You Want To

You can play as an iconic role familiar to players of the tabletop Pathfinder roleplaying game - an adventuring hero like a Fighter, Wizard, Cleric or Rogue (and in time, like the other classes in the tabletop RPG) or you can explore many more ways to develop your character. The world of Pathfinder Online is a superset of the tabletop experience. Characters can be spies, diplomats, soldiers, teamsters, explorers, or hundreds of other occupations and specialties. You will determine how your character develops. Follow a traditional role, or mix & match character abilities as you see fit to create your own customized and unique approach.

Nice news and hope is true, it's time for someone uses Pathfinder for a CRPG (that crowdfunded MMO doesn't count) and Obsidian is one of the better choices for this.

I don't think they can legally port the OGC rules Pathfinder uses to a video game, so at most they would be using Paizo's campaign settings.

As for an MMO, I thought there was already one in the works.

Seeing as my company does work with trademarks and patents I thought I'd chime in here. They actually can use OGL for core mechanics and make a product assuming they give OGL individual license holders time to withdraw their work from the OGL license.
As for campaign settings and rules from pathfinder, Pazio would grant the license assuming they haven't sold it "rights free by now.

Memory is hazy but I believe in the US Hasbro had a suit on core mechanics and court deemed that core mechanics were not even eligible for copyright. Id have to check with specialist for more details.

Excited for this. With how unabsashedly dorky Obsidian guys can be with all things RPG, it's in good hands.

Wasn't there a failed Pathfinder-oriented Kickstarter that Obsidian pledged towards?

Well don't get your hopes up it might just be a new card/board game.:disappointed:

Update: Codex member Athelas remembered something Feargus told RPS some time ago:

"Nothing stops us from being able to do those two different things. It’s going to make us look at Eternity as a brand. What else can we do with it? I want to hook up with the Pathfinder guys and see about doing a Pathfinder Eternity world book thing. It sounds a little weird, but… A card game. A board game. I’ve already been chatting with Cryptozoic Entertainment. We have nothing going on specifically, but they have a lot of experience in board games and card games. That’s what’s going to be transformative."

So it's very likely a card game or a board game, and in that case, it's probably based on Eternity.

Well here is another update from the Codex. I'm getting excited again.:w00t:
Update 2: Apparently this might be two related games at once, a CRPG and a card game, according to the hint dropped by Lisa Stevens, Paizo CEO:

In the same thread, she also posted:

All will be revealed this weekend. Well, maybe not all.

Press release tomorrow. More details throughout the weekend. We are talking about more than one type of game. I think you guys will be happy.

Btw, they are NOT taking over Pathfinder Online. Let's squash that right now.

-Lisa

According to Lisa, it's also not a tabletop version of Pillars of Eternity.
