So Riddle of Steel is my absolute favorite PnP RPG that I've never actually had the opportunity to play. Well, some avid players from the (sadly now closed) unofficial forums (trosfans.com) spent a couple years in discussion of all the things TRoS did wrong (and right) and two of the forum members joined forces to create the game - Blade of the Iron Throne, housed here: http://www.ironthronepublishing.com/
It inherits a very unique, and much more realistic (and to my mind interesting) style of combat resolution than we are used to seeing from RPGs (tabletop or otherwise). It also expands upon a very neat system of collaborative storytelling that seems as it would be a balm to all of the complaints that years of playing Dungeons & Dragons has left me with. It also claims to specifically target the fantasy sub-genre of swords and sorcery. I plan to get a test session together very soon. Here's hoping that it plays out as well as I think it may.
