I have recently been getting into jazz music and I want some suggestions for great albums to buy.

I started with Richard Elliot, who a friend of mine was playing one night. I went about bought his album "Richochet" and I love it. I also downloaded a couple tracks from Candy Dulfer like "Lily Was Here" because some people told me she was great as a modern introduction to jazz, and I did like those songs a lot.

So... anything like that. Thanks!

Miles Davies is great..... if you want something more unusual try weather report. More to come later.

Elliot/Dulfer = pop `jazz`

Dizzy Gillespie/Davis/Charlie Parker etc = jazz

You might not like`em if you`re into Candy, but at least give it a try, for the sake of the genre.

Miles Davies, Charlie Parker, Chet Baker, Dexter Gordon, Dizzy, Mingus, Monk, Coltrane (careful wih this one), or anyone who plays Bebop.

My suggestion is to start with "Round Midnight" OST and then "Bird" OST. They're easy to get inside.
In the beginning, try to listen only when you think you're in the right mood for it. With time it grows within your soul.

Charles Mingus - The Black Saint and the Sinner Lady (1963)
Solo Dancer
Monumental composition with unfuckwithable horn arrangements.

Charles Mingus - Mingus Ah Um (1959)
Better Git Your Soul
Every song is a hit.

John Coltrane - A Love Supreme (1965)
Part I: Acknowledgement
You shouldn´t need to be that careful with this one :).

Art Blakey & The Jazz Messengers - Free For All (1964)
Free For All
Killer drums.

Eric Dolphy - Out to Lunch! (1964)
Hat and Beard
Avant-garde, yet relatively easylistenin´.

Pharoah Sanders - Karma (1969)
The Creator Has a Masterplan (first 11 minutes)
35 minutes of uplifting chill.

Tina Brooks - True Blue (1960)
Theme for Doris
I´ve no idea why this album is so obscure.

Horace Silver - Song for My Father (1965)
Song for My Father
A fine selection of often latin influenced tunes.

Keith Jarrett - The Köln Concert (1975)
sixth 10 minutes
Fantastic piano improvisation, but more like new age :).

Bohren & der Club of Gore - Black Sun (2002)
Constant Fear
A good ole dark ambient doom jazz noir.

Somebody give Mike a poke--I'm surprised he didn't smell a thread like this. ;)

I heard that "Klaus Doldinger's Passport" is said to be good, but I know absolutely nothing regarding that group.

Apart from that - if you want to try early stuff, then you could try listening to George Gershwin as well ... ;)
But ... - that's not "Jazz" by definition ...
