The Future of the Obama Presidency

Ostracism. interesting, though harsh, concept.. I like the part about it defusing tensions rather than creating them, but am wary of scapegoating...

Corporate tyranny, tyranny of the profit motive, it's a regression to the Robber Barons of the late 1800's, but more dangerous, since these same companies control our more pervasive media, and buy our corrupt elected officials. Very scary…

IMO Corporate tyranny is a bit of a stretch… Middle class Americans should share a portion of the blame; and it didn't take some sort of tyrannical institution forcing their hands either. As much as unchecked globalism and corporatism are to blame, so too is unchecked consumerism(Which undoubtedly started with the corporations, yet we fell for it.).

“We must shift America from a needs- to a desires-culture. People must be trained to desire, to want new things, even before the old have been entirely consumed. […] Man’s desires must overshadow his needs.”

If you don't mind documentaries you might want to check out Adam Curtis' Century of the Self.

The "me" generation's thinking is a part of it. It has made it's way into self-serving corporate thinking, and just as responsible is Republican Reaganism mantras of deregulate - business above all else.

The 2 going together is certainly a nasty multiplicative effect. One on it's own may not have been so bad.
