I'm tempted to pick this up in the GOG sales. 50% it's not a bad discount.

I think it was a mistake to make dozens of areas, 2/3rds of them could easily have been cut to make the remaining 1/3rd more elaborate.

At start, that could not have been a mistake. In a game providing meaningful zombies that might ruin scavenging runs, providing duplicated areas is not a mistake. It is a necessary safety net.

At the moment, the zombie threat is non existent, all the locations are open to be scavenged successfully.

The product was supposed to include things like survivors getting nervours at the simple idea of doing a run in a place with a certain number of zombies.
Potentially, this could close locations to survivors.
Zombies from outside a location map are attracted to noise and once they move in, they stay. As a result, survivors would get more nervous the next time they return.
Eventually, some locations might be closed to certain survivors who could not take it. Or even, locations could get overwhelmed by zombies, closing them to all the survivors.

In this configuration, getting a high number of locations, in duplicate, was not a mistake.
It was a safety net to ensure that players have enough locations to try and fail.
Out of 100 locations, the player would have been able to scavenge successfully one third, one half etc

Right now, zombies are inexistent, they cant ruin a run so all the locations are fully open, this leads to dullness.

Zombies games require a huge work on zombies to get a proper gameplay.
The issue is that players are not interested in zombies, they want human infighting.
In the thread, players time this patch as the right moment to enter while it provides nothing substantial on zombies, only improvements on humans.

Very hard to develop zombies games when players are not interested in zombies.
That gives products like Dead State.
