But there's still the Gothic franchise more or less alive ...

If you have a 360, try lost oddessey I enjoyed that....even blue dragon, although that is very oldschool.

Thank you for the tip though, sounds like it might be promising. I've been rummaging around for stuff to play of late as there seems to be a bit of a gap, I'm giving anachronox a go at the moment. Seems a bit clunky but interesting and different at least, but some alternatives are always welcome
