was Disciples III ever improved?

I wanted to like the first 2 and for all their good looks I just couldn't.

I just got the Disciples II Gold edition, so I really don't know. Similar questions on the Steam forums, however, had responses that said there was one patch that did not fix nearly enough. People said there is an expansion planned, which is expected (or hoped) to have further fixes.
