From GamesIndustry:
While Turbine intends to turn MMORPG Dungeons & Dragons Online into a free-to-play title in the US, there are no current plans to do the same in Europe, according to regional publisher Codemasters.
A digital upgrade for the game titled Dungeons & Dragons Online: Eberron Unlimited will go live this summer in North America, allowing new users to play for free and purchase content via micro-transactions.
"To clarify, for the time being, DDO Europe will not be assuming this new business model and the European DDO game service will remain a monthly subscription-based game with all new content created available to all subscribers, as has been the model up until now," said Codemasters in a statement.
More information.

It's a LMOG.

Limited Multiplayer Online Game. Actually most MMO's are LMO's. Same as the LWW. (Local Wide Web).

Hmm, I still think this could be a decent game for cooperative LAN sessions - but it'd have to be free or follow the Guild Wars model.

It's just not the kind of game I feel comfortable paying a monthly subscription for.

This just adds to my bitterness regarding companies supporting the U.S. market extraordinarily, but not the European market.

And then there is the bitterness about releasing games in Germany months before an English release.

... Just read in the Larian forums the tale (posted by Alamar) of a German buyer of Sacred, who bought "the original English version because the German translation was so terrible" ... :rotfl:
