I just got hold of Simon the Sorcerer 4. So far it's hilarious fun; fully voiced and with contemporary references as well as the usual cliches. I loved getting a Hammer +2 early on, with a suitable RPG reference!! If you enjoy adventure games and played any of the earlier games, definitely get this. It comes in both English and German!!

Hmm.. never heard of it Corwin. May have to check that out.

I was playing Need For Speed Pro Street last night and you'll never guess what I saw in-game! Well, okay, maybe you won't be as surprised as I was. But still... I was racing along a track, and usually that's so fast you can't watch the scenery (which is incredibly detailed in this game), but I happened to glance at a passing billboard and saw an elaborate movie poster advertising the new Speed Racer movie and included the opening date. The thing is, the game was released in 3Q of '07, and at the time I didn't even know a Speed Racer movie was coming out. I'm pretty sure that billboard wasn't there the first time I ran that course. Even though I'm playing single player the game is always connected to the 'net uploading stats and the like. Apparently they also update the game's content in subtle ways too. Or maybe it was included in the bonus content I downloaded a couple months ago? Anyway, I just thought that was cool... the shape of things to come...

I told about it, somewhere in the non-RPG section.

And yes, it's out since before last fall here in Germany.

@Jaz: Nice game, isn't it ? :)

It's very hard to find the game, and the website they advertise doesn't seem to exist anymore. Pity, because I think many people would buy the game if it were better marketed!! I hadn't heard about it till my son found it.

Well, there ARE adventure-themed specialist gaming sites out there ... Plus there once was the AdventureDot.

I'm still rampaging through MM6 with my now level 50 party, but I've taken a few hours out to finally get positioned for the last battle in Puzzle Quest--I've been stoking my warrior girl with green mana upgrades and hope I'll be able to take Lord Bane out with his own Sword of Bane spell. We'll see.

Ha, I'm doing a Mike and playing several games at once. Currently:- Witcher, Simon 4, M&M 2,3 and 6, and regular GW sessions with Cm!! I've just downloaded the Frayed Knights Pilot too, so I might take a look at that today!! :)

Corwin, how much are you enjoying M&M 2? I tried it for a little while but it's sadistically hard and not that much fun imho.

I'm about to start messing around with M&M 6 now that I've finally given up on trying to get Wizards and Warriors to run correctly on WindowsXP.

M&M 2 is extremely challenging. I also don't like how I need a spell list beside me since the spells are only numbered, not named. It's definitely a frustrating game which is why I also ended up loading M&M 3 since I have the collection. It's MUCH easier to play.

hey Jabberwocky the reason you saw that add is also the reason the game one this award

personally while i dislike advertising, one of the many reasons i watch/listen to nearly zero non public radio or tv, so far it doesn't bother me in games. if it merely billboards that fit into the games scenery i don't mind at all. swat 4 was one of the only game i've played that ive seen use it (great game with non-lethal combat on sale at gogamer presently). i don't even mind all the crap when you first boot up a game; but if they start pasting loading screens with ads or adds for deoderant spray in a fantasy game i just might vomit on my screen.

standing under everyone
Bought myself Star Wars Battlefront I yesterday.

It's some fun in SP mode, though it rather "screams" like "I've been designed for MP !" on almost every aspect of the whole game.

Hey thanks for sharing Curiously. So far I haven't been bothered at all by the blatant advertising associated with NFS Pro Street. I mean, the aftermarket parts are what racing is all about, legal or otherwise. I actually thought the Speed Racer billboard was cool.

But I know exactly what you mean,.. in some genres it would just be ridiculous. But think, they could still pull off stuff like that to an extent. For instance in a fantasy RPG you could be wandering into a village, only to see a tattered poster advertising another upcoming RPG, in old english prose of course, and in a way that didn't clash with the in-game world. (I kind of have in mind the posters found around the city of Vizima in The Witcher) That would be pretty slick if you ask me.

A temple inside of Startrail had such an advertisement.
I liked it, somehow.

These are all crawling at a snail's pace due to game-time constraints ...

PC:
- Divine Divinity ... wow it takes long to finish a 120+ hour game on my limited game time ;)
- Betrayal at Krondor - this is such a gem, I'm sorry I missed it 15 years ago!

Mac:
- Enemy Territory: Quake Wars - same as my PC review, but this is just some mindless fun
- NWN2: I've given up trying to get the MotB expansion running on it, but the core game is still loads of fun.

DS:
- The World Ends With You - cool and stylized and very different Squeenix action-RPG.
- Rondo of Swords - a strategy-RPG that forces you to think differently as part of attacking is going *through* others ...

PSP:
- God of War: Chains of Olympus - while I'm not convinced it is as 'smart' as GamerDad claimed in the blog, it is a fun and challenging pure action game that every adult PSP owner should play. Note - you hit the not-so-hidden sex mini-game in the first half-hour or so.
- Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII - another excellent game, with a very random leveling system, but a solid plot and great cutscenes.

- Suikoden V: Lordlake has its water again. Now I'm doing remaining side quests(finding do-re-mi elves) and searching for additional followers.

- Shadowgrounds: Not as good as Alien Shooter: Vengeance. Killing tons of aliens is always fun though.

I agree. The follow-up, Shadowgrounds: Survivor is better.
