Question about buying a PC

I put my eyes on this PC that is about 1100$

here are the complete specs: Intel Core 2 Quad q6600 2.4 Ghz (quad core, 8mb, LGA 775)
2GB DDR2 667
320GB SATA2
NX8600GTS-TD512MB DDR3
a DVD+/- Dual Layer of course
and audio 7.1 channels

i want to know your impressions please and if it is worth getting or if it is not good enough for the money

100 US dollars for that would be an absolute steal, which just might be literal. I'd check out your source very carefully. It looks remarkably like the Dell I tried to buy. They ended up selling me something else because the XPS700 systems have a mobo problem where some capacitors melt (that's a bad thing

). Make sure you check your source.

I believe he meant 1000$, because that processor alone is ~300$. Don't know enough to be able to judge the system as a whole, though.

I am with Dte, that is a steal, even at $1000. If it is a store with good return policy it might well be a good sale and worth it for sure. Was it a brand name and if so what, that makes a big difference in what we might advise you.

Hmm.. Quad core alone is around $300 as they say. I'd guess about $200 for the MB, $100+ for 2gb RAM, $200-$250 for the 320gb HD, and $100 for a decent case. I haven't seen that model of video card before but looking at a NX8600GTS-T2D512 shows a $310 overseas. There are GT and GTS models, some with 512mb in the US for around $200. So it looks like the price is right for a package deal.

Who's the manufacturer? I take it this is a from a major PC brand.

Kind of odd for a new quad core to do 667mhz methinks. These days its all about 800mhz RAM.

Its too bad you can't get at least another Hard Drive to go RAID on it.

another typo is at the video card! it's MB not MV! probably that's why you never heard of it lol! and what do you mean by manufacturer?

If dualcore is much cheaper then buy it and use the money to get better graphics card (8800gts). 8600 is clearly a bottleneck for your system. Othervice it looks quite solid.

Other then the already suggested upgrade on the video card I think it looks well worth the money. Check out return policy and warrenty policy from the store. If they are normal you should be in good shape. If you have to mail the puter off for repairs you may want to keep looking. lol

Just watch out for restocking fees. My cousin's first comp. was a lemon, he wanted to return it, but the store had only a 7-day return limit, and demanded a 30% restocking fee. His 2nd comp. was purchased at a more reputable store with an unconditional 90-day return policy, and a 0% restocking fee.

(restocking fee = fee you must pay = x% of initial price)

Everything looks fine except the video card, you really need to get 8800GT if the machine is for gaming purpose. It's best value card with nice performance ever released by nVidia.

Yes ? I've got a 8600 GT card, which works quite well now, for me, of course.

But on the other hand I must say that I hardly ever buy the newest games and rather older stuff on flea markets, second hand and so on.

I don't care much about sound, I must say, 5.1 seems to be sufficient nowadays, imho.

And i don't see much sense in double-layer DVDs as well.

But I think I'm rather conservative in this respect.

Btw, have you guys any idea what's the benefit of going for a 6850 or going for the Q6600?
