RPG AI and DX12

The console excuse does no hold either.
First because of the large PC crowdfunded scene and second because consoles are going to be mere platforms to process data coming from PC servers (cloud gaming)

Gaming is not about winning or losing. When interested in winning, better to take products that were designed to bring that outcome.

AI is good as long as it improves the gameplay experience. Things like intelligent and dynamic conversation with ai npcs could be cool but improve the scope of design alot. We may see much smaller games content wise as choice and consequence from ai decision-making is allowed to unfold into ever larger spirals.

Do we want RPG AI to improve? I do actually want to win my games in the end.
Interesting point, but not a real problem.

In AI you generally follow one of two goals:
  1. make the agent act as rational as possible (e. g. an AI for card games perfectly memorizes all cards and makes perfect decisions leading to success)
  2. make the agent act like a natural/human intelligence (an AI for a card game can't remeber all cards and makes some flawed decisions)
In computer games your AI should be optimized towards 2.
You want your Orc warrior act like a "real" Orc warrior, not like Commander Data.
