How to separate the Indie-RPGs ?

Personally I felt a stronger attachment to my Characters in XCom EU (though I don't like the game) than the ones in Banner Saga. A fantasy setting alone doesn't make it a RPG.
In case of Expeditions...well, I'd give it the benefit of the doubt and put it in ;)

From what I understood there will also a poll about 2014 rpgs. Which was intended to be called anticipated...so no idea if you can anticipate a game which was already released ;)
Would be unfair though to exclude all tha january games from the poll just because of their release date.

You always have RPGs which come out while the contest is running. Happens every year.

Everyone can post their games of 2013.

If your game of 2013 was Wizardry 7 -> vote for it, but don't expect such a game will win … ;)

Cheers. But still, even with that, some points are up for discussion.

Must Have
S1: you can get info from information sources (=> e.g. hints, goals, quests, skills, spells, training, …)
S2: you can follow quests (=> there is at least one main quest)
Expeditions passes that I'd say.
But for XCom and Banner Saga it's about interpretation. ^^
And if XCom and Banner Saga don't meet this criteria, Stonekeep and Eye of the Beholder would probably neither.

Sure but does that mean I will be able to vote for them anyways? ^^

Don't think it's intended like that. And I hope it isn't.
Other interpretation would be that you can only vote for games you made on your own :p
Would be rather boring poll ^^

Eye of the Beholder:

Main Quest from the Lords of Waterdeep:
(S2) Investigate the evil beneath the city
(S1) Information pieces hidden in the dungeon

One of the disadvantages of a forum based poll is that the amount of people contributing is lower compared to a poll like we did before. The advantage is that you can make it as complicated as possible :)

I'm for having a restricted number of games you can vote for like we have done in the past (1st, 2nd and 3rd place), that requires you to actually make a choice in what for you the best game was.

FTL was released in 2012 though. The Mobile version was released in 2013 and the extended version will be released in 2014.
But I think these lists need to be cut quite a bit.
Or do you really want XCom, Space Hulk, Fallen Enchantress and Europa Universalis compete for the title RPG of the year?
Same goes for 2014. Age of Wonders 3, Worlds of Magic, Thief 4 and probably a couple of others (don't know all the names).
Dark Souls 2 is missing btw. To be released on Consoles on March and on PC a little later.

Positive for a forum based poll:
Public votes - everyone can see your voting.
You have to think about your vote - no easy fan clicking for one game.

IMHO many votes don't make a vote better per se. Votes from RPG enthusiasts who really think about their vote make a poll result better.
The poll result can then be used as a recommendation for other players.

Voting for more than 3 games is a plus for me, too.
