A new RPG Dungeon of Naheulbeuk will be shown at Gamescom.
HE INIMITABLE "DUNGEON OF NAHEULBEUK" SERIES FINALLY ADAPTED IN A VIDEO GAME!

Paris, July 29, 2015 – On the occasion of the 2015 Gamescom exhibit, Microïds and Artefacts Studio announce their coproduction and present the first game based on the famous "Dungeon of Naheulbeuk" license on Playstation 4, Xbox One, PC and Mac.

Gloomy underground passages, secret tunnels, deadly traps, starving monsters… RPG fans have come across dozens (or hundreds or millions) of them in their more or less long life of adventurer. But they could not expect what they are about to experience!

With a few axe blows, "Dungeon of Naheulbeuk" shatters the codes of traditional RPG.

Reflected by the audio version - the license’s real base now available in comic books, board games and soon animated series produced by Nomad Films – this title joyfully caricatures the genre’s stereotypes with a sharp tone the large community enjoys since its creation in 2001. With its author John Lang, alias Pen of Chaos, actively participating to the project, respecting the spirit of the origin is guaranteed.

The ferocious Barbarian, the grumpy Dwarf, the naive Elf… All the 7 archetypal heroes well-known to the saga’s fans will be present and able to be assisted by a potential 8th adventurer to explore the famous dungeon. On the agenda: far-fetched encounters, crucial choices (“shall we go right or left?”), XP race, loot gathering, madcap dialogues and communicative joy.

And of course, as our favorite barbarian would say: “KICK ASSSSS!”. When the band comes across ugly malevolent villains, party time is over (is it?). The game switches to the tactical mode for
turn-based battles where the heroes’ best assets will be needed. And even in the middle of chaos, as the backstabs are getting ready and the fireballs come thick and fast, the "Dungeon of Naheulbeuk" creators keep relaxing the atmosphere with off the wall and impudent dialogues.

“WHY ARE WE HERE?”

In the brand new story, our adventurers failed to complete their mission; they are almost all dead. But thanks to a magical object, they go back in time and arrive in front of the Dungeon’s gates to start their journey all over again. They will try to recover (again) the statuette (main goal) but also to understand why they perished. But the memory of their first adventure fades away and they only recollect it from time to time…

"Dungeon of Naheulbeuk" is scheduled to be released on Playstation 4, Xbox One PC and Mac, in French, English, German, Italian and Spanish. It will be presented at the Cologne Gamescom exhibit on August 5-7 at the Microïds booth.

You must be greedy and never have enough RPGs to get interested in this game as it is very localized. Or maybe this will be turned into an international version.

What do you mean by very localized?

That dungeon of Naheulbeuk stuff started as a kind of audio series distributed through the internet and intended to a niche audience, a french audience.
A kind of pastiche of RPG codes.

While they took care of offending who they could offend and avoid offending who they could not, the shift to a different public might negate the effort.

Reminds me of the Knights Of The Dinner Table, judging from your description …

caricature is one of the lazier forms of humour. I'll take an RPG that doesn't take itself too seriously over parody any day. ;)
