Skyrim Morrowind fans: How do you feel Skyrim stacks up?

Do you see yourself playing Skyrim for hundreds of hours like you played Morrowind?

I'm only 60 hours in, so it's too early to say I think, but I see myself spending hundreds of hours with this game. The amount of content is staggering, and the gameplay systems in place are interesting enough to me that I can see myself always coming back for more, creating new characters, and playing through the game a few times like I did with Morrowind.

Overall, I think Skyrim is equal to Morrowind as the best TES game out there. Skyrim is of course more technologically advanced, which doesn't always mean "better", but systems-wise I feel Skyrim is just as good as Morrowind, albeit much different. But definitely on par. Those are my thoughts anyway, and I'm a diehard Morrowind fan.

I was a big fan of morrowind as well and I love Skyrim. I can't imagine how good it will be once it gets patched and some decent DLC/mods come out, this is the reason I have not been playing it much the last week, I am trying to drag it out. I am certainly going to give it a second run through as well.

I agree with you as well Fluent. Oblivion was very disappointing for me but Skyrim is at least as good as Morrowind. Like I have said in another thread: I wish I could go to sleep for a year, just so I could play Skyrim with some of the mods released during this time!

I like Skyrim a lot. It's definitely Morrowindier and even Daggerfallier than Oblivion, and I absolutely love its scenery porn.
However, I can't say if ten years from now I will still speak of it in awe and get all smoochy and teary-eyed when remembering my first playthrough. If that happens, I'll say it's on a par with Morrowind. But ... it might happen.

The reason why I loved Morrowind so much was not its gameplay (it was okay, but nothing to write home about), but rather its interesting setting, which managed to feel radically different from most other fantasy settings. Mods helped make up for many of its gameplay & graphics related flaws (while the environment looked beautiful, character models did not, even when the game was first released), which was what made the game so good.

Skyrim has a less interesting setting. It is still beautiful, and still quite interesting, just not on the same level as Morrowind. On the other hand, Skyrim has better gameplay out of the box, heck it is for the most part better than modded Morrowind gameplay. If the modding community is as good to Skyrim as it was to Morrowind, it will be my preferred game, though not by a huge margin. Only time will tell though.

Oblivion did by the way suffer from being set in the least interesting province of Tamriel, which is a large reason for my relative dislike of the game. Much of it just felt too generic.

I'm a huge Morrowind fan, and so far I think Skyrim's holding up fairly well. It's got a much, much more interesting setting and plotline (so far) than Oblivion did. There's some bits that I'm not so crazy about, but most of them fade away as I get more into it.

But like Jaz said, it's hard to say at this point if I'll have the Morrowindy feeling a few years from now. It's entirely possible that once I've played through it that I'll lose interest, or find that there's not enough variety in playing different character types to make it still feel alive.

I played Morrowind for hundreds of hours and Skyrim is at very least as good as Morrowind. After 50 hours, i think Skyrim very favorably and in a lot of aspects much better than Oblivion. For an example, more of your actions have an impact in the game world. In a particular quest when i killed someone, the news spread and people started talking about it; and when i killed a dragon, people in town actually came out and gather around the dragon's corpse and talking about my ability in awe.

Hard to say since nostalgia always makes games seem better (for the ones you loved). I had a blast with Morrowind and loved the settings and stories.

I think they will both be favorites for different reasons. I liked the different setting in Morrowind as well as the deeper system (yes I liked the stats and all the character management). But I also like the realism and huge world of Skyrim (I also love Norse culture so biased there as well) and enjoy the companions and story and quests a lot.

Skyrim is a better game than Morrowind however Morrowind is the first open world RPG have ever played. When playing Morrowind, I felt like little kind let loose in a toy shop! So I don't get the same feeling when playing Skyrim since I have seen most of these before.

So Morrowinds wins simply for the nostalgic reasons!

I think that my disappointment with Oblivion lowered my expectations and helped me to appreciate Skyrim more.

I'm currently playing both Skyrim and Morrowind with the Morrowind Overhaul Mod, and it's close as to which one I'm having more fun with.

The combat is way way better in Skyrim, but I don't like the clunky interface compared to the right click ease of Morrowind's.
Graphically Skyrim is more photo-realistic but Morrowind is still more of a varied, strange and interesting landscape to look at and explore. The voice acting has been really good in Skyrim, not a lot of it in Morrowind.
Story wise both seem on par right now but that could change as I play more.

But Skyrim with mods will be something else.

Anyway both beat out Oblivion overall for me.

The more I play Skyrim, the more I like it. Yesterday I have picked up a quest from a female Argonian in Riften. Because I have kind of stumbled upon this NPC , I thought that it will be just another Fedex. Turned out to be very nice quest indeed!
