Are these games fun?

I saw one of the farm sims on Steam a few months ago. Looks like they have a LOT of product placement, too.

I can't understand them at all. Not even a little. A game where you watch the grass grow. Then you can drive a combine over your field… great… and what's going to make this even slightly difficult? Could there at least be a massive, crop-killing storm coming in so I have to make some decisions on what part of the field is worth harvesting?
Maybe there are children in fields? And you can chose whether to warn them or not. Choice and consequence!! Should make it a nice RPG, if you can buy new gear for your combine (an English word I don't know).
P.S. Cricket computer game! Dibs!! It will be quite true to the real game… if you go in to the INI file and set the Version parameter to {ebaf-124423-95f0-9b13a}. Otherwise, it will use rules more recognizable to the American audience and, of course, round bats instead of those funky paddle things. Oh, and one of the teams will consist entirely of cat girls.
No Lara Crofts?

No, the point in these games sn't the "combing the fields" point. It isn't the work at all, in my (personal) opinion.

It's in the earning of things. I guess.

It's not even meant to be difficult, being a choices thing or whatever, I think.
I think you are looking at it from the wrong angle.
But in the end, I'm not sure about that, either.
It's only that I can say for my on part that it'd be fun to earn somthing. ;)
I think we call this in RPGs "crafting". ;)

Plus, here in Germany there's currently a well-known TV show called "Bauer sucht Frau" ("Farmer seeks woman"), it's kind of a TV show about farmers looking for a wife.
This is currently *very* popular here in Germany !
And no-one exactly knows why ...

Perhaps nostalgia for old school RTL-type soft porn. I recall that there was always a scene when some peeping tom landed in a compost heap ;)

I played some Animal Planet that came with my NDS. It wasn`t too bad...basically you do some stuff to pay mortgage and decorate your house. Grind to get loot? Sounds familiar :) It was also relieving not to have to kill things and such, and of course full of Japanese charm.

These Farmville things are rather soulless though.

Rats. I think I'm running out of ideas, here. What about Sim Watch?

@dte. Thanks. Clearly it would add to gameplay if there were children in the fields. Do any of these games come with 18 year rating?

I think we need to develop these games a bit further. I've got this idea about a combine, perhaps driven by combines, and called Christine.

Sim Watch? What are you getting at, there? Are we talking a simulation of a timepiece, or a simulation of voyeurism, or a simulation of an incredibly witty message board? This is all getting so confusing... ;)

Mission accomplished.
