Convoy is a new kickstarter game asking for €10,000 from a Dutch developer called Convoy Games. They call their game a mix of FTL & Mad Max.

Presented in pixel art and set in a future post-apocalyptic setting, Convoy is a squad based tactical roguelike-like in its core. You travel with your combat vehicles and convoy across a wasteland to find parts needed to repair your broken spaceship. During your journey you will encounter strangers in randomized scenarios by picking up radio signals.

Depending on the choices you make, signals can either lead to tactical combat, text based dialogue or chance based role-play. Whatever choice you make, you need to keep your convoy and its cargo safe from raiders, privateers and other enemies. Keep upgrading your vehicles, as death is permanent in Convoy.

Features

  • A new take on tactical combat: Combat plays out in real time as a high-speed car chase where you need to position your units and use abilities to maximise their effectiveness.
  • Exploration pays: You will encounter many different radio signals, each with a text based event. What doesn’t kill you may reward you with loot.
  • Fully customizable units: Each unit can be upgraded and outfitted with different weapons and abilities, allowing you to customize them to your needs.
  • A randomized planet: Each play-through features different main and side objectives, events, choices, and different consequences to your actions.
  • A cold war turning hot: Three factions vie for control over the planet, your actions tip the scales of balance making you an enemy to everyone. As each faction grows in strength, you need to keep up.
  • Permadeath at the core: Knowing one wrong move could lead to certain death puts you constantly on edge.

This update is way over due! Wow, so many things happened in the last 4 days! First of, let's start with another press roundup:

  • On Monday, PC Gamer wrote a lovely article
  • On Tuesday, Escapist Magazine did the same
  • And today, Rock Paper Shotgun took its turn
Following this pattern, who would post about us tomorrow?
This is amazing, and way beyond our wildest dreams! Consequently, things are looking really good! We're over 60% of the way there, and it now feels almost certain we'll pass the goal of €10.000 fairly soon :)

The first stretch goal was reached very quickly so we've added an additional stretch goal!

At €20.000 we’ll create an API which will allow you to create custom Weapons, Abilities and Units! This will definitely not make it with the release in February, but will come in an update after launch.

In other news, Destructoid posted a small article on us!

Oh, and don't forget about the live stream on Twitch coming this Thursday 19.00 GMT+1! We're still looking for more ideas for what to show during the stream. You can post these ideas in our subreddit! :)

We've just released an update for the Alpha, it includes some very big changes to the way units are handled which is a first step on the road to mod support. We've also introduced the first versions of environmental dangers in the form of bridges, and gave units a (random) voice. For the full patch notes, head over to the Steam community!

It has has been a while since I last updated the thread, and to correct that mistake here is some good news. The game is feature complete, and almost ready for release.

Feature Complete
Feature Complete!

In the past few weeks we’ve been working really hard to get the last features in: The boss, unlocks, minibosses and achievements. This means we are now officially feature complete!

Now all remains is polishing and bug fixing, these are not small tasks however! We are now working on a complete UI overhaul that should fix serious issues with some people’s monitor resolutions as well as rendering issues on some Mac systems. Other than that, we have a whole list of (smaller) issues that need fixing. Now, all of this also means we keep getting closer to a release.

Release Date


We had initially planned to deliver in February, but as we reached the end of January, it became obvious we couldn’t make that. So we decided to delay the launch to a later date. We thought perhaps March would be doable, and started looking at exact dates. However, as February progressed, it became clear March would be a very optimistic date as well. So last week we had a little discussion, and decided to postpone. Still no exact date, but we’re now looking at around halfway April.

Alpha Update


In the meantime, we continue to update the build. And today, we’ve got another update for the Alpha backers! In this update, you’ll get to beat the boss (again), achieve achievements and unlock units! See the full change log.

When we started working on Convoy in the summer of 2013, we never dreamed of reaching the point where we are now. The enthusiasm we met during the campaign last November utterly blew us away. We can’t thank you enough for your support!

Though we hoped to release it earlier, we believe the decision to delay it by a few months was the right one. The game really has come a long way! We’re happy to announce Convoy will be available from tomorrow, April 21, 2015.

All backers should now have received an email detailing how and where to claim their Steam key. To make sure we get the best launch possible, we would absolutely love it if you could tweet, share and tell your friends about Convoy!
