BioWare - David Gaider on Romances

I find his comments in this blog quite reasonable.

As do I. I definitely see where he is coming from.

I'm not crazy about romance options in RPGs. I mean, I did romance Morrigan in Dragon Age: Origins and Liara in Mass Effect, and thought it was cool, but it was just a little thing. It wasn't something I would ever play a game for, and hopefully it wouldn't ever become a bigger aspect of the games then it already was. I think it's fine as a little side story, something to get you emotionally connected to a character, but that's it. Side story, not main game. As long as they stay that way I will be fine with them. The moment a game becomes Days of Our Lives and turns into some romantic soap opera, that's when I will cringe.

You know, that might actually be an interesting kind of game to play -- sort of like a Japanese video novel crossed with Heavy Rain. But it wouldn't be an RPG. More like an adventure game where the puzzles are based in realistic social/psychological interaction.
