Brother None has penned an extensive 4-page preview of Risen 2 for GameBanshee - certainly one of the more detailed articles out there to date. An early snip:
The setting has a good consistency and is applied well, the factions are unique and appropriate, with the natives well-executed in accent and language, as is the look of the settlements and items for natives, pirates and Inquisition. If there's any problem, it's that the game doesn't really explain the change from Risen to Risen 2, why the Inquisition suddenly has muskets where before they did not. It's a jump of at least a few decades, if not a full century, and would have worked better had they set this years later in the decade's time line, with a new player character. But even though this is a little jarring, the setting itself is easy to get in to, and the atmosphere of the game is very well executed.
More information.

Happy to see Brother None liking it, that gives me hope. Although some of the design decisions indeed sound really poor, I was very happy to hear the positive comments regarding atmosphere and quest design

A couple of red flags in there, but I'm still going to purchase it. And that voodoo doll mechanic has so much potential :p

It does sound encouraging overall, although it sounds like they dumbed down a couple areas that are big points for me: a simplified character system *shakes a fist* and progressively unlocking islands. I realize this is a pirate game and makes more sense here than elsewhere, but I'm not a fan of this cop-out construct at all.

But I'll probably get the game anyway. You had me at trainable monkey pet, Piranha Bytes. :p

I'm a pretty big fan of Piranha Bytes so probably not the most neutral of parties, so keep that in mind. I mean, I still criticized Risen for its weak 3rd and 4th act and uneven quest design, but if I'd previewed that one for its first ten hours I would have been pretty damn impressed too. Let's hope Risen 2 can maintain and improve on the first 10 hours, rather than sink at some point.
