Total War : ATTILA is the next game in the Total War series of strategy games. So without wasting time here is the press release shared with the press today.

I'm excited about the new changes, and we even get family trees once again. Hopefully it's not a mess like Total War: Rome 2 was on it's launch date.

Your World Will Burn - Total War : ATTILA Announced

The next thrilling entry in the Total War series takes players to the brink of the apocalypse

San Francisco and London – September 25, 2014 – SEGA® of America, Inc. and SEGA® Europe, Ltd. today announced Total War ™ : ATTILA, the next installment in the multi award-winning Total War series of strategy games.

The Dark Ages approach. A time of famine, disease and war, where refugees in their thousands flee from a sweeping tide of destruction and death. Desperate barbaric tribes rally against the ailing might of a dying and divided Roman empire; the light of civilization gutters and dims. In the great steppes of Scythia, a vast and terrifying force gathers, led by a warrior king whose thirst for conquest is utterly unequaled.

The Scourge of God, the very herald of the apocalypse, Attila the Hun.

Total War: ATTILA introduces exciting new gameplay mechanics which improve and add to numerous core turn-based and real-time Total War systems. The world will darken around you as Attila’s forces descend on your homeland creating a unique vision of survival strategy.

“With Total War: ATTILA we will create a Total War game that will challenge and enthrall fans of the series” said Janos Gaspar, project lead on ATTILA. “We’re reintroducing some features that fans have been asking for, such as family trees and skill trees, and improving many of the core aspects of Total War we know are important to them. But to really bring the period to life, we’re building on these foundations with many new strategic features for them to consider, such as advanced street-fighting, civilians, complete settlement destruction and dynamic fire that can rage across a city as armies clash. We want to push players to the limits of their skill to survive against the odds, and to love every minute of it.”

Total War: ATTILA is due for release in 2015 on Windows PC and Mac. For more information, please visit www.totalwar.com.

I haven't updated this thread in a while, but here is a new 15 minute game-play trailer.

In this Let’s Play, take a closer look at the Ostrogoths with Simon Mann and Joey Williams and some new mechanics that even a seasoned Total War veteran will need to take into consideration when playing, and a few things you’ll need to understand before taking up one of the migratory factions.

this looks cool, i always get sucked into Total War hype, but neve play them. I think i have every TW title made. So, i decided to play Shogun Total War 2, its been on my drive forever - man am i getting killed!

im used to small to medium size groups of rts mobs, managing whole armies is a different ballgame altogether

it's a pity I totally suck at RTS, so I have to 'auto resolve' battles in all the Total War games I've played (otherwise a peasant with a pitchfork would beat my 1000 strong army). Unfortunately doing that turns the game into a very 'light' strategy game, and for that aspect Paradox games are much much better. Still, I've always wanted Paradox to make game about the barbarian invasion period, but they haven't done it, so I might get this one if only to satisfy my craving... I want to be a Visigoth!

Anyone playing this yet? Early reviews seem to indicate it's a lot more polished than Rome 2.

The last Total War game I played was Medieval 2, so I might be tempted to dive into this one if it holds up.

I played Shogun 2 too which is quite good, with a lot of customisation (but very slow loading times).

I recommend that one.

I didn't play Rome 2 due to all the bugs that were reported.

I might get this one on a sale...

I'm currently playing, still in the prologue.
If you have questions, just ask. Can't say anything in comparison to Rome or Shogun though. Medieval 2 was the last game of the series I've played.

Is it enjoyable if you do auto-combat for all battles?

Yes just a warning you will lose more often if you chose to only use Auto-battle.

oh you don't know me. I can easily lose a RTS battle if I have a 1000 Balrog army against a sleeping goblin. I really suck at RTS.

That bad huh? Well auto-battle comes in handy as I don't like fighting every battle in the map. It's to time consuming when you know for a fact you will win anyway.:)

Haha :D

I would suggest trying a few battles out...
Also make sure you pause a lot.

You can basically play it as a turn based battle game. Well RTwP I guess :)

Anyway I looked at a lets play and it seems much more polished than Rome 2.

Hum… I don't know. Things you have to manage besides the battles:
  • raise/move armies
  • construct buildings in cities
  • manage finances/taxes
  • diplomacy (e.g. trading)
  • manage dynasty (give offices to family members etc.)
  • manage agents (scouts, priests… and one more type I forgot about)
I don't if that's enough for you to enjoy. Perhaps you need to ask more specifically.

Good one. Made laugh!! :D

pibbur who tries to imagine 1000 balrogs failing to EXTERMINATE a sleeping goblin. And who also sucks at RPS's.
