Nope. Why not use all of his social media outlets to advertise this raffle on.

While Fluent really doesn't seem to comprehend the concerns some members have, at least this raffle offers a significant bonus for our members. W3 is an expensive AAA game, and you can get it for free.

I'm really surprised how successfull some of you have become in biting on their tongue. ;)

Keep doing what you're doing Fluent. I enjoy your enthusiasm and your RPG heart is in the right place.

Thanks, Caddy! A single comment like this one is the entire reason I do what I do.

I just…alright. There's only one thing I'm curious about.

Say a non-staff member bought an extra copy of W3, or wanted to give theirs away. And they started a raffle for it. I can easily see myself or one of the other staff members posting a newsbit about it. This has happened a lot in recent memory, by the way. Would it be as big a deal then? I'm not sure people would get quite as angry about it.

This seems like a…what was it one member called it…"a storm in a teacup"?

OK, I didn't want to post here again, but I think this deserves an explanation.

The difference lies in the conflict of interest. If another staff member bought a game key and wanted to give it away, there would be no such conflict of interest. It would be a purely selfless act.

But Fluent here has a Youtube channel that he wants to grow, and he is using a platform supposed to be dedicated to news and game impressions, for what looks increasingly like shameless self-promotion. Because yes, popular LPers make ad revenue or might be patronized on Patreon. If he asks others to promote his channel on Twitter to partake in the contest then this is to make his channel more popular, which might eventually translate in more money.

That's where the difference lies. There is nothing wrong with a bit of self-promotion, but if he keeps the path then this is abusing a community's goodwill.

Raffle is fine Aubrielle. It's the "You can tweet the message once a day to enter. You have 7 days left, so tweet early and tweet often!" bit that I have problem with. But you are ok with that?

The way the Watch is set up, only older staff members are allowed to have opinions. ;)

Didn't say so will.
I'm totally not okay with this. RPGwatch is a site+forum.
RPGwatch should not promote any social network nor use of one.
Just my opinion.

Of course majority, staff and the site owner may think otherwise, but I hate, passionately, all social networks and am allergic seeing them in both ordinary posts and news.
So Aubrielle, honestly, I don't care who did it, site admin, staff, active member or a lurker, I'm totally against this practice.

Whatever happens whith all of this, at least don't ask people sending SMS, Viber or Whasssup messages in future giveaways, please. Just please.

I envision a future much akin to that portrayed in Idiocracy. However, instead of mindless simpletons jerking off to porn all day, they'll be jerking each other off with social media.

Oh that's good.

You are friends with him so I can see you seeing it this way and that is fine that is what a friend is all about standing up for each other. I am sure you, Mr. Potato and him are all on the new site. Most likely talk to each other in other ways as well.

Though my thoughts are he has pushed it really to far with his in your face. It isn't even him asking for money every other second. One of the kickstarters he was telling everyone that they should and need to back it. People had questions about the game and he was like just back it though he doesn't himself.

Selling his 2 year old laptop for about 500.00 more than a new alienware and bring it up all the time. If you don't like something about a 20 year game that he is love with at the moment there is something wrong with you in his mind.

I could go on and on but I am about 90% sure Kevin would still be here and still doing the great job he did here if it wasn't for all the crap that has been going on about one person.

How do I give to Kevin and I had my Visa out that night when I saw the post saying hey I do a lot of work here I wouldn't mind a few dollars for pizza. I can afford it and was more than willing. Before I could send it Fluent had some post about wanting money for whatever reason. So I just didn't do it as I didn't want to start some trend.

The person I do feel bad for is Kevin if their friendship had anything to with him leaving here as he was one of backbones of this site for me. Though I do hope the best for him and wish he will would come back here, I can't join his site and I really want too.

Other things I even tried to save Fluent money when he was looking for a new computer if he could buy one out of Canada and get it shipped and save the 30% that US dollar was at the time...,maybe more like 1.276.

Anyways his giveaway isn't a true give away like all others here. It comes with following him on one of his 100 social media sites, I don't care what one it is.

So I do understand you guys are friends though what he is doing here in the short 4 plus years I have been here I haven't seen anyone else do.

To this quote if you think this site needs a revolucion then why be a mod here or even come here?

May I answer on it?

…it was a joke.

………

……..Anyway. To the other business you mentioned, I'm not going to comment any further than to say that Couch's leaving RPGWatch had nothing to do with Fluent. If you'd like further details, you can ask Couch yourself. It's not my place to comment on the matter.

I think a lot of people have gotten really, really angry about this. RPGWatch's official position - from Myrthos himself - is that there is no official position (in writing) on the matter, but that the site admins discourage using RPGWatch for any self-promotion of one's own business ventures. As a staff member, I will reflect that position.

If you're asking for my personal opinion, I'll give it to you, even though you haven't been very friendly in asking. My personal opinion is that I acknowledge a lot of the outrage on the matter. Fluent is my friend, though you of all people, Celtic, should know that I don't always agree with him, and you don't always need to agree with someone to be their friend. If money is involved - anywhere - then that makes things messy. I will acknowledge that if Fluent wanted to do a promotion-based giveaway (i.e. tweet lots about my site and win a game) then maybe he shouldn't have mentioned it here. I'll grant you that. Though I won't drag his name through the mud for it - this is probably the first time something like this has happened (that I know of!), and that's why the site admins haven't written a hard rule on it. All the outrage about this might coax them to do so.

So yes, Fluent might have been wrong to use RPGWatch as a promotion venue for it, though did he do it intentionally, knowingly, with dollar signs in his eyes the whole time? I seriously doubt it. He probably didn't even think about it till all this blew up. None of us did.

And now the explosion keeps blowing up…and blowing up. I'll have a talk with Corwin about it. If it's that big a deal to you guys, we'll work on it.

In the meantime…maybe try not to take it so personally? Sheesh.

If it matters (because it comes from me) please do work on it. I'm not radically against promoting other sites at all. We promote links for many other sites in news, even Codex for god's sakes. :D
Did anyone ever objected? Not really, or better to say, it never caused this much fuss.

But promoting a social network? Sorry, I just can't like it. I refuse to like it.

And if it's there to stay, if next thing we'll see "on gfacebook happened this, on twitter that, meanwhile on linked in" I suggest renaming the site into RPGfacebook so people know what the site is actually about.

The only comment I will make to you on this in public as I do respect you is on this part of your post.

He never seems to know, nor seems to care as long as one person clicks the like button. It is just excuses after excuses with him and of late he is really in your face about games. If you don't like them you are just not getting them.

My 13 year old boy doesn't ask for money as much as he has here. Also isn't using a site like this to try and get sponsored for his hobby. He is doing it on his own.....

Well, I have no real comment on this matter, other then I'm going to continue doing me, and I'm not going to let any haters or trolls bring me down. :)

As of today I have officially ignored CelticFrost and Drithius. Goodbye, toodaloo, adios to both of you. :)

There's really nothing else to say, except GOOD LUCK!!! to everyone who has entered the contest, and thank you for the kind comments and show of support!

Have a nice day! :)

See you keep showing your true lack of understanding. I am not a hater and have said countless times I have always liked your post. Nor am I a troll in anyway, I have never started a conversation for the sake of starting one to get people mad at something.

So you please do keep doing what you are doing and I will keep doing what I am doing. Maybe you should step down so I can put you on ignore as well and enjoy my time here as well.

Or maybe I will await with bated breath your review of pong.

Edited notes
I am not a hater and have said countless times I have always liked your post. Up until you started to think everyone should pay you and like everything you do.
